KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Western Michigan volleyball team tied its season high with 13 blocks on the way to a straight-set victory (25-12, 25-11, 25-17) over Eastern Michigan on Friday night at University Arena.
Gabby Weihe led the Brown and Gold up front, totaling a career-high nine blocks (2 solo, 7 assists), while
Annalise Patchett registered a career-high six block assists. Western Michigan also had four players notch double-digit digs, with
Carley Piercefield's 13 leading the pack.
Elana Erickson and
Izzy Swiercz picked up 12 digs apiece, while
Leah Richmond chipped in 10. WMU's digging and 13 blocks helped hold Eastern Michigan to a .018 hitting percentage, the lowest hitting percentage by a Bronco opponent this season.
Richmond recorded her second straight double-double for the Brown and Gold, handing out 23 assists to go with her 10 digs. Patchett put down a team-high eight kills, while Weihe and
Bri Zimmerman collected seven apiece.
The Broncos hit the road next week for a two-match series at Akron. First serve for Thursday's series opener against the Zips is slated for 6 pm.

KENT, Ohio – Kent State improved to 4-1 in five-setters on Friday evening by beating Bowling Green, 3-2 (24-26, 25-22, 25-19, 13-25, 15-12) at the M.A.C. Center.
Imoh and sophomore
Macie Moreland combined for eight kills and a .421 hitting percentage to lead Kent State to a 25-19 victory in the third set.
Imoh had a season-best 12 kills, while junior
Nadia Miller and senior
Mercedez Brown added 10 each. Brown tallied a career-high 22 digs for her fifth double-double of the season. Senior
Christina Vigil also had a double-double with 43 assists and 12 digs. Juniors
Lesley Furuta and
Hailey Brenner added 15 digs each.
Kent State totaled a season-high 13 blocks. Ginley led the way with seven, while Imoh and Miller had five each.
The Flashes will travel to Toledo for a pair of matches next week on Oct. 8-9.

TOLEDO, Ohio – The Toledo women's volleyball team handed Ball State its first Mid-American Conference loss of the season with a 3-1 victory (25-19, 25-18, 16-25, 25-16) on Friday night at Savage Arena.
The win marks UT's first victory over Ball State at home since Feb. 4, 2020, when Toledo posted a 3-2 win.
Prior to the start of the match, Toledo the jersey of Rocket great Taylor Alt. Alt is the MAC all-time leader in kills with 2,137 terminations and is the first UT volleyball player to have their jersey retired.
The Rockets (11-2, 3-0 MAC) had three players total double-digit kills with
Sophie Catalano leading the way with 11.
Sierra Pertzborn and
Kayla Ozanich each poured in 10 terminations of their own while Ozanich added in a team-high five blocks.
Three Rockets had double-figure digs led by
Grace Freiberger with a team-best 19 digs to go with two service aces.
Maddy Bach fired off 24 assists while
Janelle Green had 17 assists and 12 digs for her fifth double-double of the season.
Toledo's defense held Ball State to 44 kills on a .169 hitting percentage, including a .043 clip in the decisive fourth set.
Toledo will wrap up the weekend series with Ball State on Saturday, Oct. 3. First serve from Savage Arena is set for 4 p.m.

ATHENS, Ohio – The Ohio volleyball team (10-4, 3-0 MAC) defeated Akron (6-9, 1-2 MAC) 3-1 (25-23, 25-16, 16-25, 25-16) on Friday, Oct. 2, marking the Bobcats first conference win in the Convocation Center.
Ohio finished with a .254 team hitting percentage, 48 kills, nine aces, six blocks, 45 assists, and 44 digs. Akron finished with a .154 team hitting percentage, 46 kills, five aces, five blocks, 40 assists and 39 digs.
Sophomore
Bailey Blair and senior
Olivia Gardner led Ohio with double-digit kills. Gardner recorded a .526 attack percentage with 11 kills and one error on 19 total attacks. Blair led the team with 12 kills and 13.5 points. Senior
Torre Kildow and freshman
Rose Mahin combined for 15 kills.
Freshman
Rowan Kelly tallied a team-high 37 assists. Kelly also recorded a .667 attack percentage with four kills and no errors on six total attacks.
Junior
Darbi Ricketts led Ohio at the service line with four aces, matching her career and season best.
The Bobcats will conclude the weekend of competition when they host Akron on Saturday, Oct. 3 at 4 p.m. ET. The game will be available to watch on ESPN+.

OXFORD, Ohio — The Miami University volleyball team (10-5, 2-2 MAC) defeated Buffalo (9-6, 1-3 MAC) in a four-set match (19-25, 25-21, 25-21, 25-13) on Friday evening.
Molly Creech led all players with 16 kills, while
Grace Kreutz followed closely behind with 12 of her own.
Kamryn Utley was a key facilitator for the Red and White, as she produced a team-high 22 assists. Defensively,
Lauren Coyne put down the most blocks of the match with six, while
Rachel Morgan led the RedHawks with 14 digs.
NOTES:
- Miami totaled nine more kills than Buffalo (52 to 43).
- Utley's 22 assists were a season high.
- Kreutz's 12 kills were the most she's totaled this season.
- Coyne's six blocks were the most she's produced this season.
