Cleveland, Ohio – The Mid-American Conference announced the 2023 Men’s Tennis All-MAC First and Second Teams and specialty awards, including the Player, Newcomer and Coach of the Year, as well as the Jack Vredevelt Sportsmanship Award.
Toledo's Pawit Sornlaksup was named MAC Player of the Year for the second year in a row. The Rayong, Thailand native registered a 21-0 singles record with an unblemished 10-0 mark against conference opponents this season, ending the year on a 21-match win streak from the No. 1 court. He also notched a doubles record of 13-5 (630 MAC) from the top court with senior Krzysztof. Sornlaksup collected six weekly MAC Player of the Week honors, four for singles play and two for doubles performances.
Toledo's Alan Wermer was named MAC Coach of the Year after leading the Rockets to the program's1st regular season MAC title after going 8-2 in conference play. The Rockets then went on to win the MAC Tournament for the first time since 1973. This is Wermer's first Coach of the Year award, and is first time Toledo has received the honor.
NIU's Iker Gaztambide Arrastia, Northern Illinois earned Freshman of the Year honors after going 15-8 overall and 6-4 in conference play. He also went 4-1 in doubles play during the season.
Binghamton's Michael Pawlowicz and Buffalo's Simon Wibler were named the Jack Vredevelt Sportsmanship Award co-winners. Pawlowicz had a 6-22 overall singles record and a 5-24 doubles record. Wibler went 19-15 overall in the singles and 3-0 in doubles play with teammate Macnamara.
