Buffalo Bulls Compete at Holmes Cathrall Invitational
UNIVERSITY PARK, PA – Members of the University at Buffalo men's tennis team competed at the Holmes Cathrall Invitational this weekend. The event included players from Columbia, Cornell, Navy, Florida, and the hosts, Penn State.
Friday morning started with the doubles competition, where
Emiliano Jorquera and
Faiz Nasyam defeated Columbia 6-3 and then followed that up with a 6-2 win over Cornell. In singles action,
Onder Balci picked up his first win in the blue and white with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Cornell's Jack Casciato, Jorquera defeated Columbia's Tristan Lee 6-4, 6-0, and
Michael Malkin picked up a 6-2, 6-0 win over Penn State's Christos Glavas. In the white draw,
Theodoros Mitsakos def. Reiya Hattori (PSU) 6-2, 7-5 and
Minjae Kim took down Cornell's Petar Teodorovic 6-2, 6-0.
On Saturday, Jorquera and Nasyam picked up their third straight victory with a 6-1 win over the hosts, and Mitsakos and Malkin also defeated a duo from Penn State 6-3. Jorquera continued his strong play in singles action as he cruised to a 6-2, 6-1 win over Cornell's Nathan Gold, Balci overcame a dropped second set to defeat Columbia's Junghee You 6-4, 1-6, 7-6 (8-6), Nasyam picked up a pair of wins defeating Navy's Tommy Kim 6-4, 6-4 and Columbia's Lee 6-1, 6-2 and Malkin took down Columbia's You 6-2, 6-4.
Jorquera and Nasyam continued to roll in doubles on Sunday as they defeated Navy 6-3, while Kim and Balci took down the hosts 6-4. The Bulls then picked up two more wins in singles play as Nasyam defeated Penn State's Christos Glavas 6-2, 6-3, and Balci cruised to a 6-2, 6-0 victory over Penn State's Kyle Chesman.
Up next, Buffalo will return to action on Thursday, October 9, when they begin play at the ITA Regionals, held in New Haven, Connecticut.
Western Michigan Broncos' Ho and Adesoro Rack Up Wins at Hope RMC Invitational | Results
HOLLAND, Mich. -- The Western Michigan men's tennis team wrapped up competition at the Hope Racquet Sports Management Invitational at Hope College over the weekend.
DOUBLES
The Broncos picked up just one doubles win in the four rounds, with
Ashton Adesoro and Dimitry Moriarty earning a 7-6 (7-3) win over Northwestern's team of Owen Megargee and Jacob Golden.
SINGLES
Chen-Hui Ho led all Broncos with three singles wins on the weekend. He picked up his first win against Northwestern's Vincent Yang 2-6, 7-6 (7-1), 1-0 (10-8). His second came against Purdue's Nikola Jovic 6-2, 7-5. Ho finished off the weekend with a 3-6, 6-2, 1-0 (10-7) win over Golden.
Adesoro was the only other Bronco to earn a singles win, getting two on the weekend after defeating Megargee 6-2, 4-2, with Megargee retiring in the seventh game of the second set. He then went on to earn a win over Mitchell Sheldon from Michigan State, 2-6, 7-6 (7-1), 1-0 (10-5).

Northern Illinois Huskies at Redbird Invitational | Day 1 Results | Day 2 Results | Day 3 Results
NORMAL, Ill. – The Northern Illinois University men's tennis team continued its fall competition this weekend, participating in the Redbird Invitational hosted by Illinois State. The Huskies traveled to Normal, Ill. for the invite, competing with Illinois State, IU Indy and Marquette.
The Huskies began the invite with strong doubles performances, with all three pairings securing victories.

Nikola Puntaric downed Marquette's Hugh Perrill/Luke Coppage 6-4,
Lorenzo Leti Messina/
Federico Scotuzzi defeated Marquette's Evan Glebov/Teddy Wong 6-1 and
Iker Dellien Velasco/
Sam Klein outlasted Illinois State's Tin Ostro/Finn Logue 7-6 (3).
In the afternoon session,
Federico Scotuzzi, Pratyaksh LNU and
Sam Klein all recorded singles victories over IU Indy.
In day two,
Iker Gaztambide Arrastia/
Nikola Puntaric recorded a win over IU Indy's Solomon Dunsirn/Jai Dutta 6-3. In singles, Scotuzzi and Messina each recorded singles wins over Marquette's Hugh Perrill and Luke Coppage.
Scotuzzi won two of his three singles matches and was apart two doubles victories in the invitational.
"(Federico) competed very well with great focus, intensity and fight," head coach René Vidal said.
The Huskies will see each of these teams in the spring as they host IU Indy on Jan. 23 and Illinois State on Feb. 6 and travel to Marquette on Feb. 22.
Next up for NIU is the ITA Regional Championship from Oct. 16-20.
