Men's Outdoor Track and Field Awards Announced

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Mid-American Conference announced the 2022 Outdoor Track & Field post season awards on Wednesday. All awards are voted on by the head coaches in the conference, with the exception of All-MAC Teams and Freshmen Performers of the Year, which are determined on points earned at the conference championship meet.

Baldvin Magnusson of Eastern Michigan won the 1500, 5000, and 10,000 to take home the Outdoor Most Outstanding Track Performer.  Magnusson’s year has been nothing short of remarkable, winning the Cross-Country Championship in the fall as well as the Indoor Track and Field Most Outstanding Track Performer.  Baldvin currently ranks No. 9 in the 5000 in the East region (13.32.47).

Hesham Eldesouky of Akron earned Most Outstanding Field Performer by winning the triple jump, 15.97m, 52’4 ¾ “.  Currently, Hesham holds the 24th best mark in the country. Eldesouky won the most competitive event in the meet where six athletes that scored in the event are in the top 36 in the East and top 63 in the nation. Hesham also finished 3rd in the Long Jump.

Alex Bloom’s athletes scored 66 points to lead Kent State to its first MAC Outdoor Championships title since 2004, posting a pair of national top-50 marks while winning two golds and three silver medals. Alex Shields (7168) and Jacob Mally (7154) posted a dominant 1-2 finish in the decathlon, finishing more than 500 points ahead of the third-place competitor with scores that rank 50th and 51st, respectively, in the nation. The duo combined for 8 more points in the 110m hurdles. The Golden Flashes scored 12 points in both horizontal jumps, as Del’Mario Hairston won the long jump with a PR of 7.44m (24’-5”) and Alexandre Malanda took second in the triple jump with a wind-aided mark of 15.75m (51-8.25). His athletes added 10 points in the pole vault and 6 in the high jump.
