CLEVELAND, Ohio – On Tuesday the Mid-American Conference announced the 2021-22 Player, Coach and Freshman of the Year, as voted by the head coaches, of the Mid-American Conference.
The conference office also released the 2021-22 All-MAC Teams, All-Freshman Team, All-Defensive Team, Defensive Player of the Year and Sixth Player of the Year awards.
Akron’s Jordyn Dawson received numerous top honors after being named the 2021-22 MAC Player of the Year, Co-Defensive Player of the Year, earning a spot on the All-MAC First Team, and All-Defensive Team. The redshirt senior from Huntington, West Virginia was phenomenal for her team this year, averaging 22.4 points per game which ranks 6th in the NCAA and tied for 3rd in the MAC. Dawson also averaged 9.6 rebounds, 4.1 assists and 3.05 steals per game for the No. 3 seeded Zips.
Toledo Head Coach Tricia Cullop earned Coach of the Year honors after leading the Rockets to an impressive 25-4 (19-1 MAC) record. The 19 wins are the most conference wins in a regular season. Currently, Toledo is on an 11-game win streak and has reached the 25-win plateau for the 12th time in program history and the first time since the 2016-17 season.
The Bulls Georgia Woolley is the winner of the 2021-22 MAC Freshman of the Year Award. The Brisbane, QLD, Australia native played a large role in the Bulls successful 22-8, 16-4 (MAC) season. Georgia averaged 14.2 points per game while grabbing 4.9 rebounds per contest and solidified the Buffalo backcourt with teammate Dyaisha Fair.
Ohio’s Cierra Hooks was named MAC Co-Defensive Player of the Year for the fourth time in her career as she averaged 2.9 steals per game.
Toledo’s Hannah Noveroske provided excellent depth off the bench for the 25-4 Rockets and was named Sixth Player of the Year.
Buffalo’s Dyaisha Fair joined Dawson and Hooks on the All-MAC First Team after averaging 23.1 points per game, while Toledo’s do-it-all Quinesha Lockett and Northern Illinois’ double-double machine A’Jah Davis, rounded out the team.
Graduate student Summer Hemphill of Buffalo earned All-MAC second-team honors along with Central Michigan’s Molly Davis, Eastern Michigan’s Areanna Combs, Miami’s Peyton Scott, and Toledo’s point guard Sophia Wiard.
Receiving third-team honors is talented freshmen Ally Becki of Ball State, Georgia Woolley of Buffalo, and Lauren Ross of Western Michigan, along with senior Kadie Hempfling of Bowling Green and redshirt junior Erica Johnson of Ohio.
Akron’s Reagan Bass, Ball State’s Thelma Dis Agustsdottir, Northern Illinois’ Janae Poisson and Chelby Koker along with Ohio’s Gabby Burris were selected for honorable mention recognition.
Nyla Hampton of Bowling Green repeated as an All-MAC defender while Dawson, Hemphill, Hooks, and Khera Goss of Toledo rounded out the All-MAC Defensive Team.
Akron’s Reagan Bass, Ball State’s Ally Becki, Bowling Green’s Amy Velasco, Buffalo’s Georgia Woolley, Toledo’s Jessica Cook and Western Michigan’s Lauren Ross make up the All-Freshman Team to conclude the 2021-22 postseason award lists.
