BUFFALO, N.Y. – The University at Buffalo women's volleyball team (3-1, 0-0 MAC) defeated the Canisius Golden Griffins (0-4, 0-0 Metro) in the first match of the newly named Broadview Arena in sweeping fashion on Wednesday night, 25-13, 25-21, 25-20. With the win, Head Coach
Scott Smith earned his 100
th career victory in his tenure at Buffalo. He's just the second coach in the program's Division I history to reach this milestone.
Hailey Campagna led Buffalo's offensive attack with 12 kills while racking up five total blocks.
Abisola Adebayo set a career-high five blocks on the night.
Maddie Mitchell tallied 25 assists and seven digs.
The Bulls were aggressive at the net as they finished with 13 blocks. Buffalo's offense outhit Canisius, .365 to .091.
"We were happy to get our first win in Broadview Arena and be able to have strong performances from so many different players," stated Head Coach
Scott Smith. "Our blocking really shined tonight, and I felt it was a big difference maker when the sets were close, giving us the separation we needed. Part of the game plan was to keep our unforced errors under control, and we executed that well towards the end of each set. We are looking forward to the competition coming later this weekend."
The Bulls are back home on Friday at 6 p.m. against the UMBC Retrievers. Their weekend will close against Dartmouth on Saturday at 2 p.m. at Broadview Arena.
