AMHERST, Mass. – The No. 12 UMass field hockey team closed out a sensational weekend with a dominant 6-0 win over New Hampshire on a rainy Sunday at the Gladchuk Field Hockey Complex. The Minutewomen scored two goals in the first, third and fourth quarters to defeat the defending America East Champions and improve to 6-0 on the season. Niamh McKenzie led the offense with two goals while UMass held UNH shot-less for the game's first 44:45.
Eight different UMass players recorded a point. Along with McKenzie's two goals, Neva Eisenga had a goal and assist while Cara Falconer tallied a career-high three assists.
UMass turned its third penalty corner and ninth shot of the game into its first goal at the 10:02 mark as Eisenga converted a direct shot off a penalty corner for her second goal of the weekend.
Just over a minute later, the Minutewomen made it 2-0 as Falconer fired a hard pass in front and McKenzie made an impressive tip past UNH goalkeeper Kerigan Ross at 11:18.
The second quarter saw just one shot from either side, a UMass shot that was off target, as the Minutewomen held a 2-0 lead at the halftime break.
Massachusetts erased much doubt early in the third. Just over a minute in, McKenzie played the ball in front where it eventually reached Emily Barrett, who put home her fifth goal of the season.
Late in the quarter, Amber Fairon scored a direct shot off a penalty corner, rocketing a shot past Ross for her team-leading seventh goal of the season and third straight game with a goal.
McKenzie made it 5-0 early in the fourth. Then in the final seconds, Eisenga found Savannah Freeland in the circle, who put home her first-career goal for the 6-0 lead, which proved to be final.
Final shots were 24-4 in favor of UMass, with the Minutewomen holding a 9-2 edge in penalty corners. Rozárie Mrázová made four saves, all coming over the game's final 15:15. Ross finished with 14 for the Wildcats.
UMass returns home on Friday for its MAC opener, hosting Ohio at 11 a.m.

MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – Central Michigan Field Hockey earned its second win of the season with a 3-2 showing over Saint Louis in the first game of a home-and-home series between the programs.
The Chippewas took the first lead of the game early in the second quarter, when Carolena Ryon squeezed one past the Billikens' keeper unassisted. The Chippewas took the 1-0 lead into the half.
Central Michigan's leading scorer, sophomore Mora Rulli, found her fifth goal of the weekend to lead the Chippewas to a 2-0 lead less than a minute into the second half. Two minutes later, defender AJ Walker sent a long pass down low to Teah Savignano for her first career goal.
The Chippewas allowed just two shots on goal, each resulting in a Billikens goal. The first came midway through the third quarter; the second found the back of the cage with just under two minutes remaining in the game off a corner attempt.
As a team, the Chippewas outshot the Billikens 7-2, while falling behind in corner attempts 2-5.
Central Michigan Field Hockey will kick off Mid-American Conference play Friday, Sept. 18, as they travel to Kent State ahead of hosting Michigan Sunday, Sept. 20, for Little Sisters Day.
