MAC Field Hockey Defensive Player of the Week
Lauren Lewis, Junior, Midfielder/Defender, Ball State
Hull, England

Facing off against Lehigh University and the No. 4 ranked University of Iowa Hawkeyes, Lauren Lewis put together a phenomenal weekend that showcased both her clutch offensive capabilities and her elite, resilient defensive skills. On Saturday against Lehigh, Lewis was the catalyst for the Cardinals' thrilling 5-4 comeback victory. With the match tied late in the fourth quarter, she delivered a spectacular offensive burst, scoring back-to-back goals under pressure. Her first strike served as the critical go-ahead goal to break a 3-3 deadlock, and she followed it up just two minutes later with another brilliant finish to stretch the lead to 5-3. Her poise inside the circle entirely shifted the momentum and ultimately secured the hard-fought win for Ball State. On Sunday, Lewis transitioned seamlessly into an elite defensive anchor as the Cardinals took on the offensive powerhouse of No. 4 Iowa. Despite facing a relentless Hawkeye attack, Lewis stood tall on the backline, single-handedly preventing a larger deficit by recording an incredible three defensive saves.
