BOONE, N.C. — Chloe Hook and Baylie Phillips delivered late-game heroics on Sunday, scoring unanswered goals in the final minutes of regulation and overtime to lift App State Field Hockey over Georgetown, 2-1.
The win marks the fifth straight victory for the Mountaineers (2-0) over Georgetown (1-1) and their fifth consecutive 2-0 start to a year.
Hook's game-winner was the first goal of her collegiate career, securing App State's second consecutive overtime win with less than a minute remaining in the extra period to avoid a shootout. Phillips scored her first goal of the season off a rebound in the dying seconds of regulation after the Mountaineers generated two penalty corners in the final minute.
Dakota Anderson was solid in goal for App State, tallying five saves while the Mountaineers dominated set pieces, earning an 11-2 advantage in penalty corners over Georgetown (1-1).
Both teams traded possession early, with Georgetown recording one shot on goal as each team finished with two total shots in the opening quarter.
The Mountaineers applied heavy pressure in the second, earning four penalty corners and forcing three saves. Despite outshooting the Hoyas 5-1 in the quarter, App State could not find the back of the cage, keeping the match scoreless at halftime.
Georgetown struck first out of the halftime break, taking a 1-0 lead into the fourth quarter.
App State mounted a fourth-quarter rally, taking four shots, three of which on goal. Anderson kept the Mountaineers in striking distance earlier in the period, making three consecutive saves on a single Georgetown possession to prevent the Hoyas from extending their lead. Phillips then netted the equalizer with less than a minute left in regulation to force overtime.
The Mountaineers dominated the extra period, generating five penalty corners to Georgetown's zero and forcing five saves from the Hoyas' goalkeeper. On App State's fifth penalty corner of overtime, Hook slotted the ball through the goalkeeper's legs to seal the win.

ORONO, Maine – The No. 15 UMass field hockey team scored at least one goal in each quarter in downing Maine 7-0 on Sunday to wrap up an impressive 2-0 start to the season. Freshman Amber Fairon was the story offensively, scoring her first four career goals and adding an assist for nine points on the afternoon.
Fairon became the first UMass player to record a hat trick since Antonet Louw had a program-record five goals against Northeastern on Oct. 19, 2018. Fairon's four goals are tied for the second most in a game in program history while her nine points are also most by a Minutewoman since Louw that day.
UMass opened the scoring in the seventh minute. On a fast break, Emily Barrett found Fairon in the middle before Isla Campbell fired the ball into the back of the net for the 1-0 lead.
Fairon continued to dominate from there, scoring four consecutive goals. The first came via a direct shot off a corner with less than two minutes left in the first quarter. Midway through the second quarter, Fairon made a tremendous move towards the circle, through defenders, before firing a reverse into the back of the net for a highlight-reel goal.
Fairon then gave the Minutewomen a 4-0 halftime lead with three seconds remaining in the half.
Another direct shot off a corner from Fairon gave UMass a 5-0 lead early in the third quarter.
The Minutewomen added two fourth-quarter goals, from McKenzie and Cara Falconer. Both were reverses from near the top of the circle to give UMass a 7-0 lead, which proved to be the final.
Final shots were 22-6 in favor of UMass while the Minutewomen held a 6-4 edge in penalty corners. Facing her former team, goalkeeper Rozárie Mrázová didn't face a shot on goal in the first half. Coleen Conlan played the final 30 minutes and made three stops. A pair of Maine goalkeepers combined for 11 saves.
The Minutewomen return to action on Friday when they host Boston University at 4 p.m. for their home opener.
Ohio 2, Saint Louis 1 (OT)

ATHENS, Ohio – The Ohio field hockey team (1-1) closed out the opening weekend of play on Sunday afternoon (Aug. 30), defeating Saint Louis (0-2), 2-1, at Pruitt Field.
Overall, Ohio scored two goals on 18 shots with seven on goal, while taking 12 penalty corners. Saint Louis scored one goal on 18 shots with seven on goal, while taking 11 penalty corners.
Individually, sophomore Tiana Nhamoinesu (Thirsk, North Yorkshire) scored one goal on five shots, while sophomore Karley DuCoin (Turnersville, NJ) recorded the game-winning goal on one shot. Junior Mia Scheulen (St. Louis, Mo.) and sophomore Ava Florence (Louisville, Ky.) both added an assist. Junior Deborah James (Hertfordshire, England) recorded three shots with one on goal, while freshmen Maddie Hill (Perth, Australia) added two attempts with one on goal.
In goal, junior Molly Schreiner (State College, Pa.) got the start, allowing one goal and making six saves in 60 minutes of work.
After a scoreless first quarter, the Bobcats' offense picked up in the second when the Bobcats recorded four-straight penalty corners resulting in six shot attempts for the Bobcats. Ohio's offensive pressure would pay off, and in the 19thminute, Nhamoinesu would score her first goal of the season unassisted to give Ohio a 1-0 lead.
The Saint Louis offense would not let up and the Billikens would even the score up at 1-1 in the 26th minute. The Bobcats would look to retake the lead as the first half came to a close, however, they were unable to capitalize on another corner, sending the game into halftime with the score tied at 1-1.
At the half, Ohio outshot Saint Louis, 11-7, with Ohio taking five penalty corners to SLU's three.
The Bobcats looked to retake the lead in the third quarter, when they recorded four-straight corners once again, which resulted in four shot attempts. However, the Saint Louis defense held strong and kept the Bobcats off the board, sending the game to the fourth quarter still tied at 1-1.
Both teams opened the fourth quarter trading offensive pushes. However, the Bobcats' work in front of the goal paid off in the 54th minute when DuCoin scored with assists from Florence and Scheulen to give the Bobcats a 2-1 lead with just over five minutes remaining.
Saint Louis pushed to get the equalizer over the remaining seconds, securing a corner with two seconds remaining. SLU would then record three-straight untimed penalty corners, before the Ohio defense helped the Bobcats come out on top by the final of 2-1.
