LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The No. 10 RedHawks took care of the Indiana Hoosiers Saturday, winning 2-1 after first-half goals by Justina Intzes and Lucia Ventos. Miami improves to 1-1 on the season while Indiana falls to 0-1.

After the RedHawk defense blocked two early Hoosier shots, the RedHawks generated the game's first penalty corner. Máxi Aguirregomezcorta set up striker Intzes, who capitalized to give Miami a 1-0 lead late in the first quarter.

The RedHawks generated two penalty corners early in the second quarter, but shots by Aguirregomezcorta and Malena Sabez were each saved.

A second pair of penalty corners came for Miami with five minutes left in the half. After a blocked shot, inserter Ventos picked up the rebound and scored her first goal of the season, doubling Miami's lead to 2-0.

A save by Nicky Sjouken ended the first half.

Indiana fought back in the third, generating four penalty corners. After a save by Sjouken and a block by Sofia Scarlatti, the Hoosiers fired off a long goal on their third corner of the period to pull back within one score, 2-1.

The RedHawks held Indiana to just one shot in the fourth period to solidify a 2-1 victory.

Aguirregomezcorta led the RedHawks with three shots on goal and four total shots. Intzes took three shots.

Sjouken made four saves.

Miami outshot the Hoosiers 15-10 and had 10 shots on target compared to five for the Hoosiers. Both teams totaled six penalty corners.

The RedHawks are back in action this Friday, Sept. 4 with a 1 p.m. start at home against the Michigan State Spartans.
