Toledo Falls in First Round of NCAA Championship to Florida

ANN ARBOR, Mich. – The Toledo women's tennis team closed out the 2026 dual season by falling to Florida in the NCAA Championship First Round, 4-0, on Saturday morning at the University of Michigan.

The Rockets (13-9) ended their season with the program's second-ever Mid-American Conference Tournament Championship and second NCAA Championship appearance.  

Florida started off the match by winning the doubles point after a 6-0 decision on the No. 2 court and a 6-3 victory on the No. 3 court. The No. 1 doubles duo of Isabella Barretto and Neha Guru were in a close battle, 4-3, before the match was abandoned.

In singles court, the Gators fired off wins on the No. 3, 5 and 6 courts to clinch match point. On the No . 4 singles court, freshman Anastasia Akuginova picked up a 6-2 win in the first set before the match was unfinished during the second set. Sophomore JJ Scholten battled back on the No. 2 court to win the second set, 2-6, 6-4, before her contest was abandoned.

Florida will move on to play the winner of this afternoon's match between No. 12-seeded Michigan and Illinois State.
