Western Michigan Defeats Marquette | Box Score Match 1 | Box Score Match 2 | Box Score Match 3
KALAMAZOO, Mich. -- The Western Michigan men's tennis team went 1-2 over the weekend with a win over Marquette before falling to Ferris State and Michigan State. 

The Broncos split a double-header with the Golden Eagles and the Bulldogs on Friday. WMU opened the day with a 6-1 victory over MU. Western Michigan took all three doubles matches to take the early advantage. Drew Evans and Tim Riedel took down Hugh Perrill and Luke Coppage, 6-0, at No. 2. The point was secured by Oscar Corwin and Jonas Keck with a 6-3 win at No. 3 against Kristian Blagov and Ivan Vazquez. Shortly after, Ashton Adesoro and Jack Davison picked up a 6-4 win at No. 1 against Blake Roegner and Remi St. Laurent. 

Keck pushed the lead to 2-0 with a 6-1, 6-4 win at No. 6 over Evan Glebov. Davison took down Coppage 6-2, 6-1 at No. 5 to make it 3-0. Chen-Hui Ho clinched the match win after a 6-1, 6-2 victory against St. Laurent at No. 4. Adesoro defeated Reogner 6-3, 6-3 at No. 1 before Corwin picked up the sixth and final point.

Ferris State took the doubles point and the early lead. Ho and Adesoro picked up WMU's two points. Adesoro beat Kevin Kovacs 6-0, 7-6 (7-3) at No. 1. Ho picked up a 6-1, 4-6, 6-3 win at No. 4 over Praneel Pichiki. 

On Sunday, the Broncos fell to the Spartans 7-0. Four of the six singles matches were settled in two sets. Corwin pushed Taym Alazmeh to three sets at No. 3 but fell 6-4, 0-6, 2-6. Davison also pushed his opponent, Mitchel Sheldon, to three sets but lost 5-7, 6-1, 3-6.

Western Michigan is off next week before opening Mid-American Conference play on Friday, March 6 at Buffalo.

NIU Responds Against Marquette to Win, 4-0 | Box Score 
MILWAUKEE, Wis. – The Northern Illinois University men's tennis team capped its road trip this weekend with a 4-0 win over Marquette on Sunday afternoon.

NIU answered quickly following its loss to Wisconsin on Saturday, claiming the doubles point over the Eagles. Iker Gaztambide Arrastia/Nikola Punatric won 6-1 at No. 1 while Lorenzo Leti Messina/Federico Scotuzzi took a victory at No. 3 by score of 6-2.

Puntaric kept the momentum going in singles, defeating Kristian Blagoev 6-2, 6-1 at No. 2 for his sixth win of the season. Scotuzzi recorded a 6-3, 6-2 win and has now won four of his last five matches.

The clinching point came from Gaztambide Arrastia, who sealed the match with a 6-3, 7-6 win over Blake Roegner at No. 1.

The Huskies have now won five of their last six and are back in action this coming weekend. NIU will travel to Chicago State on Saturday, Feb. 28, to play its postponed match from January and return home for a Sunday match against Grinnell College.


Toledo Takes Down Fordham | Box Score 
TOLEDO, Ohio –
The Toledo men's tennis team earned a 5-2 victory over Fordham at Shadow Valley Tennis Club in Toledo, Ohio on Sunday afternoon.

The Rockets (5-6) started the match off strong, recording the doubles point on the No. 2 and No. 3 doubles court. Joshua Mackey and Alejandro Gonzalez combined for a 6-3 victory on the No. 3 doubles court, moving their overall record to 6-0 throughout the dual season. Lucas Britez and Poonthong Komolpisut combined for a 6-1 win on the No. 2 doubles court to take an early lead.

UT earned the first three wins throughout singles play to clinch the match victory. Junior Cole Cozens recorded his third-straight singles win and his seventh victory in his last eight matches with a 6-2, 6-3 decision on the No. 3 court.

Freshman Pannawat Suttisomboon earned a straight-set victory on the No. 6 court as Britez clinched match point with a 7-6 (7-3), 6-4 win on the No. 2 court. The Rockets' final point of the contest came from junior Poonthong Komolpisut earning a three-set win on the No. 1 court to earn his fifth win of the dual season. Fordham tallied wins on the No. 4 and 5 singles courts to earn their only points of the match.

Toledo will return to action against Chattanooga on Thursday, Feb. 26. First serve from Chattanooga, Tenn. is set for 1:00 p.m.
