BROOKVILLE, N.Y. – The University of Massachusetts women's lacrosse team scored early and often on its way to a dominant 18-2 win over defending NEC Champion LIU on Saturday afternoon. Dylan Lyons led the offense by setting career highs for goals (5), assists (2) and points (7), while Bayley Duffy stopped 10-of-12 shots sent her way in goal.
"Really proud of the team's connectivity all over the field," said head coach Janna Drummond. "They were committed to the systems and each other on both ends. Selfless play and UMass way!"
Along with Lyons' career day, Kassidy Morris had three goals and five points, marking her third hat trick in four games this season. Ava Connaughton and Norah Prizzi each had two goals and an assist. Katie Onderdonk scored twice, Lil Hancock dished two assists and Caitlyn Naughton and Brigid Manning recorded a goal and assist apiece.
Defensively, Marisa Gatz had a game-high three caused turnovers, while collecting two groundballs. Cate Marshall led the MInutewomen with five draw controls.
After more than nine minutes without a goal, Naughton opened the scoring at the 5:55 mark. Morris scored just 37 seconds later for a 2-0 lead, as the Minutewomen led 4-0 after the first quarter.
LIU opened the second-quarter scoring at 13:11, but UMass responded with the next three, the middle of which was a sensational behind-the-back goal from Connaughton, as the Minutewomen led 7-1 after 30 minutes of play.
The Sharks again opened the third quarter with a goal to pull within 7-2, but UMass reeled off 11 unanswered goals to take an 18-2 lead at the final horn. Lyons had a stretch of two straight goals and three of the MInutewomen's five, all coming in the third quarter. Each of her seven points came in the first three quarters.
Late in the fourth, Prizzi got on the scoreboard for the first time this season, netting back-to-back goals while also dishing an assist, on the way to the 18-2 final.
Final shots were 32-21 in favor of UMass while the Minutewomen held a 19-11 edge in groundballs and 12-10 advantage in draw controls. The Minutewomen were a perfect 4-of-4 on free-position shots.

Kent, OHIO - The Golden Flashes turned in yet another strong defensive performance on Saturday as they took down the Butler Bulldogs at home by a score of 10-6. The win improved Kent State's record to 3-1, which is now the best four-game start in program history.
The Golden Flashes would open up the scoring less than three minutes into the game on a goal from junior Eva Anderson and an assist from senior Zayda Crumpton. After Butler would score the next two, the Flashes finished out the first half scoring the next four goals to help them jump out into a 6-5 lead heading into the halftime break.
KSU dominated in the second half defensively as they allowed just one goal in the final two frames, scoring four of the five goals in the third quarter before no scoring from both teams in the fourth.
The first goal of that run for the Blue and Gold came just 30 seconds into the second half as Senior Emily Bond scored her first goal of the season. Kent State slowed down the pace of play in the fourth quarter to secure their second home win in a week.
Junior Morgan Halli led the way on the offensive end for the Flashes with three goals. Crumpton also finished with three points off of one goal and two assists, while senior Riley Floyd finished with two goals and senior Meghan Haddow contributed a goal and an assist.
Sophomore Anna Zucconi once again anchored the Kent State defense with seven ground balls and a pair of caused turnovers. Senior Meghan Haddow and sophomore Josie Wallace also contributed two caused turnovers each. Junior goalie Sydney Davis had another impressive performance with 14 saves in net for the Golden Flashes in the win.
