• Eastern Michigan handed previously unbeaten UMass its first loss of the season with a 38-14 road victory, improving to 2-0 in MAC play for the first time since 2005. The Eagles led 14-7 at halftime before scoring 24 unanswered points in the second half to pull away. Noah Kim threw for 219 yards and two touchdowns, while EMU’s defense held UMass to a season-low 14 points.

• Western Michigan rallied from a 17-10 fourth-quarter deficit to defeat Buffalo, 20-17, in its MAC opener. Broc Lowry’s 5-yard touchdown run tied the game before Dieter Kelly’s 38-yard field goal gave the Broncos the lead with 1:19 remaining. Buffalo drove to the WMU 2-yard line on the final possession, but Scoop Gardner Jr. stopped quarterback Jason Wright at the 1-yard line on fourth down with two seconds left to seal the win.

• Toledo overcame an early deficit and used a dominant rushing attack to defeat Ball State, 39-24, in its MAC opener. After Ball State missed a 26-yard field goal late in the first half, the Rockets marched 80 yards and took their first lead on John Alan Richter’s touchdown pass to Daryl Barnett Jr. as time expired. CJ Miller rushed for a career-high 196 yards and two touchdowns, while Connor Walendzak added 103 yards and a score as Toledo piled up 352 rushing yards.

• Central Michigan erased an early 7-0 deficit by scoring 21 unanswered points in the second quarter en route to a 41-17 win over Akron in its MAC opener. Angel Flores sparked the turnaround with a 55-yard touchdown run before adding a 48-yard touchdown pass to Shawn Foster, and the Chippewas scored touchdowns on five of their next six drives. Flores rushed for 154 yards and a touchdown as CMU piled up 481 yards of total offense and 337 on the ground.

• Ohio opened MAC play with a hard-fought 13-10 victory over rival Kent State, earning its first road win of the season. The Bobcats’ defense and special teams came up big, recording two blocked kicks and holding the Golden Flashes scoreless in the fourth quarter. Jack Fries led the way with 10 tackles and a blocked field goal, while Michael Molnar added eight tackles, a sack and his first career interception.

• Bowling Green rallied late to defeat Miami (OH), 24-20, in its MAC opener, earning its first win of the season. After Miami took a 20-17 lead with 1:51 remaining, Jay Kastantin led a 75-yard scoring drive capped by Leo Kemp’s 2-yard touchdown run with 12 seconds left.
