OXFORD, Ohio – On Wednesday morning, Miami's Amber Tretter was named to the Becky Hammon Mid-Major Player of the Year Preseason Watch List. The senior was one of 25 players honored.
Last season Tretter was named First-Team All-MAC and earned a spot on the MAC All-Tournament Team, helping the RedHawks to a program record 28 wins and a pair of conference championships. The Ferdinand, Ind. native averaged 14.4 points, 8.0 rebounds per games and connected on a career-best 41 triples last season. She posted 11 double-doubles (career-high) and scored in double figures 28 times.
In her career the senior ranks 21st in program history with 1,152 points, is seventh in rebounds (788) and third in double-doubles (31). Prior to being named first-team all-conference last season, Tretter earned honorable mention as a freshman and sophomore. She is also on pace to become just the second RedHawk in program history to eclipse 1,000 career rebounds and points.
To be eligible for this award, players must compete in a conference deemed to be "mid-major." The following conferences are considered high-major for the purposes of this award and thus ineligible: ACC, Big 12, Big East, Big Ten, and SEC. Players competing in the re-formed Pac-12 are eligible.
The 15-player mid-season watch list will be announced in January, followed by 10 semifinalists announced in February. The five finalists will be announced in early March, with the winner announced around the Final Four. The list is fluid, and players may play their way on or off it over the course of the season.
