Mount Pleasant, Mich. — The Central Michigan field hockey earned it's first victory of 2025 over Mercyhurst University Friday afternoon in shutout fashion, the Chippewa's first since 2020.
Sophomore Carolena Ryon led the Chippewa offense, logging two goals, while senior Mallory Camryn added on one goal and one assist. Junior Cameron Pluciennik logged the fourth Chippewa goal. Freshman Mora Rulli and senior Shannon Dwyer found their way to the scorebook, each logging an assist.
Although unable to crack the board in the first half, the Chippewa offense put heavy pressure on the Lakers back line. As a team CMU logged 13 shots, eight of landing on goal, alongside eight corners.
Ryon opened the Chippewa's scoring sneaking a shot by the Laker's keeper off a penalty stroke just under two minutes into the second half. Camryn followed up just two minutes later off a corner attempt, set up by Rulli and Dwyer, to double the Chippewa lead.
On the defensive end, heading into the fourth quarter keeper Ashley Cogger had yet to face a shot or corner by the Mercyhurst offense, thanks to suffocating pressure by the Chippewa mid and back lines.
Ryon struck for the second time in the fourth quarter; after receiving just a little too much space from the Laker's defense, she went five-hole on the keeper for third goal of the season.
Yet again, just two minutes later the Chippewas logged their final goal of the game as Pluciennik was able to get her stick on a shot from Camryn that was sailing just right of the cage. The goal was Pluciennik's first of the season.
Cogger ended the game, facing only one shot and one corner, recording her first shutout for the Chippewas.
Camryn's three-point performance adds to her chase of 100 career points. After Friday's victory she sits at 90.
Central Michigan will wrap up their weekend at home by taking on Mercyhurst for a second time Sunday, Sept. 7, at 1 p.m. for Dog Day.

RICHMOND, Va. – James Madison's Madelief Molier crossed to Skyler Brown, who took an off-balance shot to the bottom left corner for the overtime gamewinner in a 2-1 victory against Richmond on Friday night at Crenshaw Field in non-conference field hockey action.
Trailing 1-0 with under two minutes to play, Azul Covarrubias sent a hard pass into the circle, which was deflected high to the top left corner by Julie Narleski to force the extra period of play. At the time, JMU had an extra attacker on after taking goalkeeper Molly Schreiner off with 2:27 remaining in regulation.
The Dukes (2-2) limited Richmond (1-2) to just two shots in the final two periods and drew eight corners compared to four for the Spiders in the second half.
Brown and Narleski's goals marked the first of their senior campaigns, with Brown's score being the fourth game-winning goal of her career. Schreiner stood tall with seven saves, including a diving stop on a penalty stroke late in the third period.
Amy Stripling scored the lone goal for the Spiders on a penalty corner with assists from Jess McMeeking and Camila Daud. In goal, Amanda Cimillo matched Schreiner with seven saves, facing 19 shots and 10 corners from the Dukes.
Both defenses played tight in the opening frame, with each team registering just one shot in the opening frame.
Richmond applied more pressure in the second with seven shots and five penalty corners, but Schreiner turned away all four of the Spiders' shots on goal to keep the game 0-0 through 30 minutes.
Schreiner came up huge on a penalty stroke against Valen Luna Paratore with a diving save to the right post.
UR finally broke through on the following penalty corner scored by Stripling which trickled past the JMU defense with assists from McMeeking and Daud.
The Dukes registered 11 shots and earned seven corners in the corner, but trailed 1-0 heading into the fourth.
At the 1:42 mark of the final frame, with an extra attacker on, Narleski deflected a hard pass in the circle from Covarrubias that found the top left corner for the equalizer and forced an extra period of play.
In overtime, Molier drove down the right side and dished the ball in front to Brown, who spun around and shot to the bottom left post to walk it off for the Dukes.
The victory was JMU's first in overtime since topping American in double overtime last season, 3-2, on Sept. 6.
Through four games, the Dukes have allowed only one first-half goal, which came against Villanova on Aug. 29 – the first contest of the season.
Coming into the game, JMU had only recorded 10 penalty corners through its first three games.
The Dukes will head to our nation's capital to take on American on Sunday. Game time at Jacobs Recreational Complex is slated for 1 p.m. and will stream on ESPN+.
