Hovey, Trayanum Tabbed Scholar Athletes of the Week

The Scholar Athlete of the Week Award is presented to a MAC male and/or female student-athlete who has a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better and performs well during that week's competition. An institution can nominate up to one male and one female student-athlete per week in any of that current season's sports. The winners are selected by a representative of the MAC's Faculty Athletics Representatives (FARs).

Week’s Achievements (detailed description of week’s events): In a trio of matches against nationally-ranked opponents, Lauryn Hovey shined for the Falcons at the Stacey Clark Classic. Landing 64 kills over 14 sets, Hovey managed to maintain an impressive .338 hitting percentage. In each of the five set matches, Hovey logged at least 20 kills, including 30 against #17 Purdue while hitting .481. In addition to the strong attack, Hovey logged two double-doubles, finishing with 13 digs against Kansas and 11 against Purdue. She closed out her stat lines with two aces against Kansas and three aces against both Purdue and Georgia Tech.

Week’s Achievements (detailed description of week’s events): Senior running back Chip Trayanum produced an explosive Week 2 performance against Western Kentucky in Toledo's 45-21 win in its home opener on Saturday. He rushed for a career-high 163 yards on 14 carries with two rushing touchdowns, while also adding a receiving score on two catches and 13 yards. The senior made two trips to the end zone in the first quarter, scoring on Toledo's opening possession on a one-yard touchdown dive, before closing the quarter's scoring with a 10-yard touchdown reception. The Akron native then started out the second half with a 75-yard run to the end zone on the first play from scrimmage to put Toledo up 38-7, helping the Rockets put the game away in the third quarter.
