Kent State Earns a Pair of Dual Victories, Including the First MAC Win in the Josh Moore Era
Buffalo, New York- The Kent State Wrestling team earned a pair of big wins in a Tri-Meet on the road in Western New York on Saturday. The Flashes took care of business against Gardner-Webb in the first meet of the day by a score of 20-14.
The Blue and Gold followed that up with their first Mid-American Conference Dual victory in the
Josh Moore era as they defeated the Buffalo Bulls by a score of 22-10.
The Blue and Gold won six bouts in their first dual against Gardner Webb as
Landen Duncan(141) won the first meet for the Flashes in a 7-4 Decision after Kent State dropped the first two.
Reese Stephen(157) and
Ethan Barr(174) earned Major Decision victories over Dominic DiTullio(GWU) and Isiah Guerrero(GWU) respectively, while Nate Roth(141),
Trent Thomas(184) and
Blake Schaffer(197) also won their bouts by decision.
In the second meet, KSU came out swinging, winning the first five matches of the dual as
Nico Calello(125) started things out with a Major Decision win. Nick Molchak(133),
Landen Duncan(141),
Silas Stits(149) and
Reese Stephen(157) followed that run with wins as well.
Ethan Barr(174) and
Blake Schaffer(197) finished out the wins for Kent State in the dual with their second of the day each.

The Flashes will return home before the holiday break as they welcome UT Chattanooga on Friday at 7 P.M. inside the MAC Center before hosting their second Kent State Open on Saturday.
Buffalo Splits Duals Against Gardner-Webb and Kent State
BUFFALO, NY – The University at Buffalo wrestling team split a pair of duals at Alumni Arena on Saturday afternoon. The Bulls rallied to beat Gardner-Webb in the opener before falling to Kent State in the nightcap.
In their opener against Gardner-Webb, the Bulls fell behind the Bulldogs, 15-0, before mounting a furious comeback.
Sam Ewing got things started with an 11-1 major decision at 149. The redshirt-sophomore was able to get a takedown in the closing seconds of the match to turn a decision into a major.
Trailing, 19-4, the Bulls rattled off three straight wins.
At 165,
Kelin Laffey was leading Tucker Cell, 5-0, before Cell sustained an injury and had to forfeit.
Rafael Knapp followed with a 9-4 decision at 174 to cut the Bulldog lead to 19-13.
Marcus Petite brought the crowd to its feet when he was able to pin Haydn Danals in the first period. Petite's pin, at the 2:10 mark, brought the Bulls all the way back to tie the match at 19-19.
Trailing, 22-19,
Magnus Bibla was the Bulls' last hope. The junior, wrestling in his first dual of the season, responded with a 4-2 decision over Rocky Files. Bibla's first-period takedown was the difference in the match.
Bibla's decision tied the dual at 22-22. Buffalo's two six-point wins gave the Bulls the win on criteria.
The Bulls fell to Kent State, 22-10, in their second dual.
The Golden Flashes won the first five matches of the dual before
Kelin Laffey got the Bulls on the board. UB's 165-pounder earned an 8-0 major decision over Ty Deericks.
Petite earned a hard-fought 2-1 decision over Trent Thomas at 184 for his second win of the day.
Bibla also won twice on the day with a 9-3 decision over Corey Boerio at 285.
The Bulls are back in action next Sunday when they wrestle NC State, The Citadel and George Mason in Raleigh, NC next Sunday.
