YPSILANTI, Mich. — Eastern Michigan University Vice President/Director of Athletics Scott Wetherbee announced today, Nov. 14, that Assistant Baseball Coach Trevor Beerman has been named Interim Head Coach for the 2026 season.

"I've asked Trevor Beerman to serve as our interim head coach for the 2026 season following Coach Britt's departure," said Wetherbee. "Trevor has done an outstanding job as our recruiting coordinator and has earned the respect of our players and staff. I'm confident in his ability to guide the program and continue its momentum for the upcoming season. Our focus now is on this team and its pursuit of returning to the top of the Mid-American Conference and competing for postseason opportunities."

In his third year at EMU in 2026, Beerman served as EMU's recruiting coordinator, along with coaching the outfielders and assisting with the offense. A native of Canal Winchester, Ohio, has previous coaching experience at Chatham University, the University of Charleston (W.Va.), Hillsdale College, Bluffton University, and Malone University.

"I want to thank Scott Wetherbee and Greg Steiner for the opportunity to serve in this new role," Beerman added. "I want to wish Robbie Britt the best of luck in his future endeavors. Without him, I would not be in this position. We have a great group in this lockerroom and I'm excited and honored to continue to build off the momentum we've created over the past year."

Eastern Michigan baseball has made steady progress under Beerman's tenure in Ypsilanti. The 2025 team went 21-31 and reached the Mid-American Conference Tournament Second Round. This marked the program's first postseason trip since 2018 and its first tournament win since 2017.

EMU also strengthened the baseball program with nearly $2 million in upgrades to Oestrike Stadium over the last 18 months. The project added a whole turf field with a sunburst outfield and gray infield, new wall padding, expanded dugouts, improved batting cages, and an updated concourse. Work included new paint, a new fence and columns along Champions Drive, an expanded press box, new foul poles, upgraded fiber for ESPN broadcasts, and new team technology through AWRE and Trackman.

"I've had the fortune to watch Trevor grow into this position over a number of years," said departing EMU Head Coach Robbie Britt. "He is a servant leader who cares deeply about people, and I'm confident he will shine in this new role. I'm so excited for Trevor, Kaela, and KJ as they step into this leadership opportunity."

In 2024, the EMU offense produced steady output across multiple categories. The group ranked 47th nationally in batting average at .300 and 107th in on-base percentage at .392. The lineup finished second in the MAC with 99 doubles and averaged 1.90 per game, the top mark in the league. Slugging percentage reached .469 for a national rank of 100, and the team produced 60 home runs to stand 137th in home runs per game at 1.15. Eastern scored 6.8 runs per game for a national rank of 146 and finished 77th in stolen bases with 78 steals.

Several players delivered individual production. Giano Zuccaro hit .341 and ranked eighth in the MAC. Logan Hugo produced 18 steals and ranked third in the MAC and inside the top 120 nationally. Bobby Jones led the pitching staff in several areas with a 3.29 strikeout to walk ratio for sixth in the MAC and 2.51 walks per nine for fifth in the league. Glenn Miller recorded 10 sacrifice bunts and ranked second in the MAC. Cory Taylor finished tied for third in the conference with three triples. The roster showed promise and laid the foundation for stronger results.

Performance improved further in 2025. The offense ranked 96th nationally in batting average at .289 and 92nd in on-base percentage at .395. Scoring increased to 7.5 runs per game, placing the team 76th. Eastern produced 392 runs and 105 doubles with a national rank of 68th in doubles per game at 2.02. The pitching staff moved up 25 national spots and lifted strikeouts per nine from 7.1 to 8.3.

Several players drove the 2025 surge. Tyler Kapa ranked 24th nationally and first in the MAC with 12.27 strikeouts per nine innings. He struck out 90 hitters, which ranked second in the conference and inside the top 110 in Division I. He also posted one complete game, ranking 63rd nationally, and finished in the top five in the MAC in innings pitched. Devan Zirwas ranked 50th nationally and third in the MAC with 20 doubles. Logan Hugo delivered 62 RBI, fifth in the MAC and 98th nationally, with a 1.22 RBI per game average that ranked 46th. Reliever Ethan Davis tied for first in the MAC with 26 appearances and ranked inside the top 160 nationally with seven saves.

Beerman came to EMU with a detailed coaching background and strong player development results. Before arriving in Ypsilanti, he served as recruiting coordinator and hitting coach at Chatham in Pennsylvania. Chatham broke its total wins record in back-to-back seasons in 2022 and 2023. The offense set new standards for hits, doubles, triples, home runs, RBI, and walks. Beerman played a direct role in shaping shortstop Benny Dottle into an all-conference performer and the program's first first-team selection.

Beerman also spent time at Charleston in West Virginia as assistant coach and recruiting coordinator during 2021. He coached the outfield and served as the third base coach. He supported the development of outfielders Hayden Cartt and Colby Johnson, both of whom earned Mountain East Conference first team honors during the 2021 season. His work strengthened defensive execution, baserunning decisions, and offensive timing.

Before Charleston, he served as an assistant coach at Hillsdale. He worked with infielders and outfielders and supported player development across multiple positions.

His first collegiate coaching role came at Bluffton, where he coached all position groups and served as the primary hitting coach. He supported the head coach with recruiting, scouting, player development, and game day responsibilities. He also guided catcher Parker Reynolds toward all-conference recognition. His early work at Bluffton built the base for his growth as a coordinator and evaluator.

Beerman pitched for Division II Malone during his playing career. As a senior, he made 12 appearances and allowed runs in four outings. He helped Malone reach two Great Midwest Athletic Conference Tournament finals. He also coached multiple summer travel teams, including the Columbus Storm and Midwest Marlins, which strengthened his early experience in instruction and roster management.

He graduated from Canal Winchester High School in 2014 as an all-conference player. He earned a business degree from Malone in 2018 and an MBA in Leadership from Bluffton in 2020. He and his wife, Kaela, welcomed their son, Kayson, in July of 2025.
