AKRON, Ohio - University of Akron women's soccer junior goalkeeper Sara Bower (Cincinnati, Ohio) has been selected to the NCAA Women's Soccer Oversight Committee.
"Being named to the NCAA Women's Soccer Oversight Committee is truly an honor," said Bower. "The opportunity to advocate and support the growth of women's soccer on a national level is incredible and I can't wait to get started!"
She is one of four student-athletes nationally to serve on the committee chaired by Akron Senior Associate Athletics Director and Senior Woman Administrator Jackie Wallgren.
The committee is charged with overseeing the Division I women's soccer championship, including the selection of teams, development of policies, and championship management.
"Sara has been an outstanding leader for our department, both on and off the field," said Wallgren. "As president of our Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, she has already shown her ability to bring people together and advocate for her peers. I'm excited to see her bring that same voice and leadership to the national level."
"I am so proud and excited for Sara," Akron head women's soccer coach Maggie Kuhn commented. "She is very deserving of this honor. She is the consummate teammate, role model, and leader – not only on our team but also for the SAAC at Akron. She represents completely what a student athlete is all about. There is no doubt she will be a strong and powerful advocate for women's soccer players across the country and represent our program and university well!"
