Kent State 3, Akron 1 | Box Score
KENT, Ohio – Kent State defeated rival Akron, 3-1 (25-20, 25-21, 22-25, 25-19), on Saturday to complete a 2-0 weekend to open the home schedule at the M.A.C. Center.

The Golden Flashes (7-8, 2-2 MAC) recorded a season-high 13 blocks for the second night in a row and held the Zips to a .100 hitting percentage. Redshirt sophomore Adalynn Ginley was the top blocker of the match with seven, and freshman Macie Moreland was right behind with a career-high six blocks. Sophomore Nadia Miller added five blocks.

The middles also had big nights attacking the ball. Miller posted a career-high 12 kills on a .474 hitting percentage, while Ginley hit .571 with nine kills.

Senior Mackenzie McGuire led the offense overall with 14 kills. Junior Christina Vigil was the leader with 41 assists and 14 digs. Senior Greta Bolognini also made an impact in the back row with 12 digs.

Kent State concludes a three-match homestand on Tuesday against Ohio. First serve is scheduled for 6 p.m.


Bowling Green 3, Central Michigan 0 | Box Score
MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – The Bowling Green State University volleyball team continued their winning ways on Saturday (Oct. 4) with a 3-0 sweep over Central Michigan in Mount Pleasant. The Chippewas kept each set close with all three settled by three points or fewer, but the Falcons were able to stay in front for the win. For Bowling Green, the win gives them a 4-0 start in MAC play for the fifth time in the last six seasons while also going down as the program's 400th MAC win all-time. Winners in eight of their last nine, BGSU will now transition to a midweek contest against Toledo, who is also undefeated in MAC play, on Tuesday (Oct. 7).

Falcon Stat Facts
  • With the win, the Falcons have now reached 400 MAC wins as a program, joining Western Michigan, Ball State and Miami (OH) in the accomplishment all-time.
  • The win extends Bowling Green's MAC regular season road winning streak to 13 matches, dating back to Nov. 3, 2023. As for this season, the Falcons have now won five straight as well as eight of their last nine. 
  • The Orange and Brown are now 4-0 in MAC play, giving the Falcons a 4-0 start to the conference schedule for the fifth time in the last six seasons. The win also keeps the Falcons undefeated when playing on Saturday this season with a record of 4-0.
  • Amanda Otten just missed a double-double for the Falcons, recording a team-high 24 assists to go along with nine digs, just one shy of double-digits. Otten added five kills and a block while also tying for the team lead in aces with a pair. 
  • Avery Hobson once again led the Bowling Green attack, landing a team-high 11 kills for the Orange and Brown while also tying for the team lead in aces with two. 
  • Jessica Andrews posted another efficient match on the attack, landing eight kills, second on the team, while maintaining a .500 hitting percentage. Edyta Waclawczyk rounded out the attack with five kills for the Orange and Brown.
  • Sydnie Hernandez led BGSU in digs with 11 and added six assists. Avery Anders added six digs while Anastasija Bozic totaled three to go with three assists, a kill and an ace.
  • For the second straight match, Helen Wilford and Kendall Williams tied for the team lead in blocks, each with three total. Williams' all came as block assists while Wilford added one solo and two block assists.
Up Next
Bowling Green will remain on the road for a non-conference midweek match against Toledo on Tuesday (Oct. 7) with a 6 p.m. first serve. From there, BGSU will be back at home next week to host Northern Illinois on both Thursday (Oct. 9) and Friday (Oct. 10).


Buffalo 3, Ohio 2 | Box Score
ATHENS, Ohio – The Buffalo Bulls volleyball team (4-9, 1-3 MAC) was victorious on Saturday evening against the Ohio Bobcats (2-14, 1-4 MAC) for their first conference win of the season, 19-25, 25-21, 23-25, 25-17, 15-13.

Emerson Matthews had a match-high 25 kills and 27.0 points. Both career marks for the freshman Bull. Manoela Forlin tallied 15 kills as she hit .342 on the day. Maddie Mitchell finished with 46 assists and 18 digs, good for her fourth double-double of the season.

Jeira Kleidon had a match-high 20 digs with Tehya Shaw adding four total blocks.

The Bulls outhit the Bobcats, .290 to .188.

At the net, the Bulls finished with six blocks to Ohio's four.

The Bulls will stay on the road as they'll play the Akron Zips on Tuesday at 6 p.m. The match will be streamed on ESPN+.


Toledo 3, Eastern Michigan 1 | Box Score
YPSILANTI, Mich. –
The Toledo women's volleyball team recorded its seventh-straight win with a 3-1 victory (25-16, 19-25, 26-24, 25-23) over Eastern Michigan on Saturday afternoon.

The Rockets move to 13-3 on the season and have won their first four matches in Mid-American Conference play. Their 13-3 record is the best start in school history.

Freshman Jessica Costlow led the Toledo offense with 16 kills and 11 digs for her fourth double-double of the season. Senior Sophie Catalano and graduate student Iremnur Elmas each added 10 kills on their own. Redshirt sophomore Sierra Pertzborn poured in nine kills and six blocks.

Senior setter Kelsey Smith had 43 assists and 12 digs for her third-straight double-double. Sophomore libero Grace Freiberger led the team with 24 digs, her fourth match this season with 20-plus digs.

The Rockets totaled eight service aces, as four different players fired off two aces against the Eagles.
