Cardinals, Falcons Earn Week 5 Volleyball Player of the Week Recognition

Offensive Player of the Week
Carson Tyler, Outside Hitter, Ball State
Ball State sophomore outside Carson Tyler led all MAC players with a 5.00 kills-per-set average in the opening weekend of league play, helping guide the Cardinals to a perfect 2-0 record. Tyler, who hit .321 for the week. smashed 18 kills and hit .485 in Thursday’s sweep at Buffalo and added 17 kills and a .216 rate of success in Friday’s four-set win at Akron. She also added 12 total digs, two aces, and two total blocks, while ranking second among Ball State’s primary passers with a .981 reception percentage, with just one error in 52 attempts.
 
Defensive Player of the Week
Helen Wilford, Middle Blocker, Bowling Green
Helen Wilford led the BGSU block to a 2-0 MAC start this week, holding opponents to a .107 hitting percentage over the two matches. Wilford's high for the weekend came against Kent State, knocking down eight block assists in three sets. This came after she registered seven total blocks against Ohio in four sets, consisting of one solo and six block assists. Wilford complimented her defense with a strong attack percentage, hitting above .570 in both matches, landing 10 kills on 17 error-free attacks. 
 
Setter Pair of the Week
Lindsey Green and Reese Axness, Ball State
Ball State setters Lindsey Green and Reese Axness helped the Ball State offense lead the Mid-American Conference with a .306 team attack percentage in the opening week of league play. The effort included a .430 hitting mark in Thursday’s sweep at Buffalo, which is the best attack percentage in a match by a MAC team this season. Overall, Green dished out 49 total assists, while serving up a team-high three aces and chipping in 14 total digs. She also collected a pair of kills in the sweep at Buffalo. Axness dished out 37 total assists, while serving up two aces and also chipping in 14 total digs.
