MUNCIE, Ind. (AP) — Kiael Kelly and Qian Magwood connected on a 43-yard touchdown pass in the final minute and Ball State rallied to defeat Ohio 20-14 on Saturday.

The touchdown pass highlighted a strong second half for the Cardinals (2-3, 1-0 Mid-American Conference) who trailed 14-0 at halftime before holding the Bobcats scoreless and outgaining them 266-100 in the second half.

The defending MAC champion Bobcats (3-3, 1-1) took a 14-0 halftime lead on a short run by Duncan Bruce and a 23-yard pass from Parker Navarro to Rodney Harris II.

In the third quarter, Ball State got a 13-yard touchdown run from Kelly and a 22-yard field goal from Carson Holmer to get within 14-10 heading to the fourth quarter.

Midway through the fourth, a Ball State punt pinned the Bobcats deep in their own territory. On a third-down play, Navarro fumbled a shotgun snap in the end zone and Bobcats running back Sieh Bangura recovered it for a Ball State safety.

On the second possession after the safety, Kelly drove the Cardinals 70 yards in nine plays, capped by the touchdown throw to Magwood with 57 seconds left. Ohio drove to the Ball State 32 on the final drive before time ran out.

Kelly threw for 185 yards on 17-for-33 passing and added 96 yards rushing to lead Ball State’s 172-yard total on the ground. Magwood caught four passes for 92 yards.

Navarro threw for 188 yards and led the Bobcats with 77 yards rushing. He, Bruce and Bangura combined for all of Ohio’s 168 rushing yards.

AMHERST, Mass. (AP) — Broc Lowry accounted for two touchdowns to lead Western Michigan to a 21-3 victory over Massachusetts on Saturday.

Lowry completed 18 of 25 passes for 163 yards and added 92 yards rushing on 14 carries. Lowry’s 8-yard touchdown pass to Michael Brescia gave Western Michigan a 7-3 lead midway through the second quarter. Lowry’s 4-yard touchdown run capped a 10-play, 50-yard drive late in the third quarter.

Devin Miles broke loose on a 25-yard touchdown run for Western Michigan (3-3, 2-0 Mid-American Conference) with about eight minutes left to play.

AJ Hairston and Brandon Rose were a combined 20-of-35 passing for 203 yards for UMass (0-5, 0-1). Derek Morris kicked a 36-yard field goal in the first quarter for the Minutemen.

It was Western Michigan’s first game at McGuirk Alumni Stadium and its first on the road against UMass since 2013 when they played at Gillette Stadium.

WMU leads the series at 3-0.

Akron, Ohio (AP) -- Ben Finley threw three touchdown passes and backup Michael Johnson Jr. added another as Akron held off a late Central Michigan Chippewas rally for a 28-22 win on Saturday.

Finley connected on a 22-yard touchdown to Kyan Mason early in the second quarter, and found Jordan Gant for a 16-yard strike to give Akron a 14-10 halftime lead.
Johnson extended the Akron lead with a 1-yard touchdown toss to tight end Max Whisner, and Finley capped another long drive with a 2-yard pass to Conner Cravaack, pushing the Zips ahead 28-10 midway through the third.

Cade Graham kept the Chippewas in it, hitting field goals from 35 and 47 yards. Angel Flores added a 2-yard touchdown run early in the fourth to cut the deficit to six, but Akron’s defense held on late.

Finley completed 18-of-29 passes for 252 yards and three touchdowns, while Mason led all receivers with 125 yards for Akron (2-4, 1-1 Mid-American Conference).

Flores rushed for 95 yards and two scores, and Brock Townsend added 108 rushing yards for Central Michigan (3-3, 1-1).

DEKALB, Ill. (AP) -- Jermaine Agee blocked a punt out of the end zone for a go-ahead safety, Dom Dzioban made three field goals and Miami (Ohio) beat Northern Illinois Huskies 25-14 in a Mid-American Conference opener for both teams Saturday.

Agee, who returned a blocked punt for a touchdown in a 38-0 win over Lindenwood last week. blocked Danny Vuckovic's punt for a 15-14 lead early in the third quarter.

After the Huskies (1-4, 0-1) took a 14-0 first-quarter lead, the RedHawks (2-3, 1-0) cut into the lead by halftime on De’Shawntae Jones' 1-yard run to cap a 75-yard drive and Dzioban's 41-yard field goal.

Dzioban added a 45-yard field goal early in the third and Agee came through with the safety two minutes later. Dequan Finn connected with Deion Colzie for an 8-yard touchdown for a 22-14 edge heading into the fourth where Dzioban added a final field goal from 24-yards out to cap a 6 1/2-minute drive.

Finn was 14 of 26 for 179 yards and a score and added 90 yards on the ground. Kam Perry led all receivers with 76 yards.

Brady Davidson was 13 of 28 for 106 yards, a touchdown to Jake Appleget and an interception for the Huskies. Lazaro Rogers rushed for 98 yards that included a 76-yard TD.

AMHERST, N.Y. (AP) -- Victor Snow caught two touchdown passes and ran for another in overtime to lead Buffalo Bulls to a 31-30 win against Eastern Michigan Eagles on Saturday.
Eastern Michigan (1-5, 0-2 Mid-American Conference) responded to a 9-yard touchdown rush from Snow in overtime with a 1-yard touchdown run from Noah Kim. The Eagles opted to go for the 2-point conversion, but Kim failed a shovel pass, losing the football to seal it for Buffalo (3-3, 2-0).

Kim was 19 of 31 for 168 yards passing and two touchdowns. Dontae McMillan caught one touchdown pass and ran another for the Eagles, adding 117 yards on the ground.

Snow, a walk-on who became a scholarship player, had 136 yards receiving with two touchdowns on six catches in addition to the touchdown run.

Rudy Kessinger hit a 42-yard field goal to give Eastern Michigan a 24-21 lead with 9:07 remaining. Buffalo's Jack Howes missed a 39-yard attempt on the ensuing possession, his first miss of the season inside 40 yards.

Buffalo received the ball with 58 seconds left at their own 9, and with no timeouts drove to the Eastern Michigan 32 to set up Howes' career-long 50-yard field goal that forced overtime.

Norman, Okla. – The Kent State Golden Flashes faced a tough challenge on Saturday afternoon, falling 44-0 to fifth-ranked Oklahoma in front of 83,016 fans at Gaylord Family-Oklahoma Memorial Stadium.

The game marked the return of quarterback Devin Kargman, who was making his first appearance since suffering a season-ending injury at Penn State in 2024. Running back Jordan Nubin also debuted for the Flashes.

Oklahoma's offense proved too much for Kent State to handle, as the Sooners built a 23-0 halftime lead and never looked back. Quarterback Michael Hawkins Jr. threw three touchdown passes, including two to Isaiah Sategna III, who finished with 75 receiving yards on four catches. The Sooners added a defensive touchdown when Gracen Halton recovered a fumble and returned it four yards for a score in the third quarter.

The Golden Flashes struggled to find an offensive rhythm throughout the game, managing 135 yards. Kent State was limited to 17 rushing yards on 33 carries and completed 10 of 19 passes for 118 yards with one interception. The Flashes converted just 2 of 13 third-down attempts and turned the ball over twice.

Kargman completed 8 of 16 passes for 74 yards before giving way to Deante Ruffin, who went 2-for-3 for 44 yards. DaShawn Martin led the receivers with 34 yards on two catches, while Ardell Banks hauled in a 34-yard reception in the fourth quarter. Nubin carried seven times for 18 yards in his first game as a Flash.

Defensively, Derrick Jackson III paced Kent State with eight tackles, while the Flashes recorded three sacks. Mason Woods, Jamond Mathis, and Jaihien Roy each registered sacks for Kent State.

Oklahoma dominated possession time (31:02 to 28:58) and outgained the Flashes 355-135 in total yards. The Sooners also held a significant advantage in first downs, 23-7.
