Evans, Lowry Named Scholar Athletes of the Week

The Scholar Athlete of the Week Award is presented to a MAC male and/or female student-athlete who has a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better and performs well during that week's competition. An institution can nominate up to one male and one female student-athlete per week in any of that current season's sports. The winners are selected by a representative of the MAC's Faculty Athletics Representatives (FARs).

Week’s Achievements (detailed description of week’s events): Lowry had a career day in
WMU's 42-0 win over Ball State. He completed a career-high 23 passes for a career-high 241
yards and two touchdowns. He then rushed for 13 times for a career-high 108 yards and one
touchdown. Lowry became the first Broncos quarterback to surpass 100 yards rushing in a game
since Sept. 22, 1973 (Paul Jorgensen vs. NIU). His first touchdown pass gave the Broncos a 14-0
lead early in the second quarter. The second one came midway through the third quarter, pushing
the lead to 28-0. His last action of the game came early in the fourth quarter when he ran it into
the endzone from 37 yards to make it 35-0. He was named MAC Offensive Player of the Week for his contributions.

Week’s Achievements (detailed description of week’s events): Leah Evans earned
seven top-two finishes at the Eastern Classic this weekend to help lead the Rockets to victories
over Illinois State and Eastern Michigan. The win over EMU marked the first win for the Rockets
over the Eagles since 2013. Evans placed first in the 400 medley relay (3:46.27), 200 IM
(2:05.99), 200 free relay (1:34.06), 100 back (55.11) and 200 back (2:00.04). In the 200 back, she
recorded the seventh-best time in program history with a final mark of 2:00.04. The junior took
second in the 100 butterfly (55.11) and 200 medley relay (1:43.56).
