The Kent State Soccer was awarded another hard-earned three points on Sunday in a win over Northern Illinois University on Senior Day/Alumni Day by a score of 1-0. The Golden Flashes honored seniors Morgan Flippin, Julia Kempf, Savannah Holmes, Taylor English, Abby Breitschuh and Kelsey Salopek before the game for Senior Day Festivities; while also honoring program alumni at halftime.

The contest was another physical one as both teams struggled to move the ball down the field much in the first half, sending the contest into a no-score tie into the halftime break.

The Golden Flashes got on the board first in the second half as a Husky penalty in the box gave the Blue and Gold a Penalty Shot in the 67th-minute. Junior forward Kiyomi McCausland was able to capitalize as she put the ball in the top right portion of the net for a score. KSU held on the defensive end for the remainder of the game to secure the 1-0 victory at home.

The Flashes once again led the game in shooting with 12 shots compared to NIU's 6. However, the Huskies led the shots-on-goal category by a count of 5-3. Kent State led the corner kick tally by a count of 4-3; while junior goalkeeper Leah Shaffer racked up five saves in the win.

The Ball State soccer team scored a trio of goals in a 10-minute stretch late in the second half to lead to a 3-0 win over Akron on Sunday afternoon at the Briner Sports Complex.

Emily Roper started the scoring with a look in the 34th minute near the right post off a feed from Tori Monaco to give the Cardinals (7-5-2, 4-3-1 Mid-American Conference) a 1-0 edge. About five minutes later, Kaelyn Valleau found the back of the net after being assisted by Roper.

Annika Klauss joined Valleau in scoring her first goal of the season in the 43rd minute off a dish by Jess Fernau for what proved to be the final offense of the day in Ball State's triumph over the Zips (4-7-3, 1-5-2 MAC).

Roper, who put all five of her shots on goal, was one of four Cardinals to have multiple shots on goal including Klauss, Delaney Caldwell and Izzy Ross. For the day, Ball State took 18 shots (14 on goal) compared to four for Akron (two on goal).

Ball State earned more corner kicks (4-2) than the Zips and were whistled for more fouls (9-6).

Sophomore goalkeeper Kate Pallante made one save in 76 minutes before senior Grace Konopatzki played the final 14 minutes and collected one save. The Ball State defense prevented Akron from getting a shot off in the first half.

The Cardinals now have back-to-back shutout wins after defeating Eastern Michigan 1-0 on Thursday in Ypsilanti.

BUFFALO, NY –
The University at Buffalo women's soccer (10-3-1, 6-2 MAC) celebrated their senior class on a beautiful fall afternoon, defeating Central Michigan 1-0 at UB Stadium on Sunday.

Graduate student forward Jasmine Guerber scored the game-winner in the 43rd minute.

The Bulls were aggressive off the opening kick as Sarah Woods and Guerber had good looks on target, but Brylee Borgman made a pair of saves.

Buffalo was at it again midway through the half as Adriana Victoriano found Carolyn Hinkle who ripped a shot and a minute later, Woods slid a pass to Guerber who drilled a shot, but both were saved by Borgman.

Guerber continued to apply pressure with another shot attempt in the 37th minute that sailed just high over the crossbar, but then she finally broke free a few minutes later as Jayda Schoburgh found her in front of goal and she one-timed a shot into the back of the net to give UB a 1-0 lead at the half.

Central Michigan had a scoring chance in the 79th minute as Rachel Jackson took a corner kick and used the wind to curl a shot on goal, but Lexie Thompson made a leaping save to keep the hosts off the board.

Buffalo looked to add an insurance goal late in the game as Ellie Simmons, Ashley Reyes and Guerber all had a go with shots from the top of the box that sailed high and out of play, but the pressure was enough to secure the victory as the UB midfielders and backline held the Chippewas to just two second half shot attempts.

The Bulls dominated the stat sheet as they outshot the Chippewas 21-3, including a 10-2 advantage in shots on goal and a 6-2 edge in corner kick opportunities. Thompson made two saves on the afternoon while Borgman recorded seven stops for the visitors.
