MAC Announces Week 2 Women’s Soccer Player of the Week Winners

Offensive Player of the Week
Jen Blitchok, Western Michigan, Forward
Graduate Student, Grandville, Mich. (Grandville)

Jen Blitchok continued her blistering start to the 2024 season by collecting three goals in two games last week. She is now up to five goals on the season, which leads the nation. Her first goal of the week helped the Broncos earn a tie against No. 24 Iowa on Thursday at the WMU Soccer Complex. With the team trailing 1-0, Blitchok scored from near midfield to knot the game at 1-1.

To follow that up, Blitchok found the back of the net twice in a 3-0 victory on Sunday against Marquette. That included the game-winning goal in the second half. She also scored the team's final goal of the afternoon to close out a three-goal victory.

Defensive Player of the Week
Lexie Thompson, Buffalo, Goalkeeper
Sophomore, Levittown, N.Y. (General Douglas MacArthur)

Sophomore Lexie Thompson stood on her head, recording a career-high nine saves in a pressure-packed 90 minutes of action to help lead Buffalo to a historic win at #7 Pitt on Thursday night. She is now 2-0 to start the year with 10 total saves and a shutout. It was UB’s first-ever win over a top 10 program and is the third win over a Power 5 opponent in the Shawn Burke era, including its second road Power 5 win in as many years.
