Maier, Ross Named Scholar Athletes of the Week

The Scholar Athlete of the Week Award is presented to a MAC male and/or female student-athlete who has a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better and performs well during that week's competition. An institution can nominate up to one male and one female student-athlete per week in any of that current season's sports. The winners are selected by a representative of the MAC's Faculty Athletics Representatives (FARs).

Week’s Achievements (detailed description of week’s events): Tyler Ross had a monstrous weekend at the plate for the Falcons, with a batting average of .455 and a slugging percentage of 1.273 as BG went 3-0. Ross erupted for a total of two doubles, two triples and a home run over the course of the three-game series sweep over Akron while registering four RBI and scoring four times himself.  Ross' best game of the series came on Saturday (March 23) when he went 3-for-4 with a double and two triples, tying the program record for triples in a game as just the 10th Falcon ever with two in the same contest. He added a walk, an RBI and two runs scored in the game. Ross' other double came in Friday's (March 22) game. As for his home run, Ross saved the best for last with a three-run, go-ahead blast in the series finale on Sunday (March 24), tallying three-RBI with the home run.

Week’s Achievements (detailed description of week’s events): Nicole Maier wrapped up a stellar 2023-24 season with record-breaking performances and an All-America finish at the NCAA Championships last weekend. In her first event, Maier broke a MAC and program record in the preliminaries of the 500 freestyle, turning in a time of 4:39.73. Maier's second event--the 400 individual medley--earned her Honorable Mention All-America honors for the second straight year, placing 11th in the event with a mark of 4:06.01. She closed out the championships competing in the 100 freestyle on Saturday, notching the second-best time in MAC and program history (47.95).
