FORT COLLINS, Colo. -- The Buffalo Bulls and Bowling Green State Falcons were selected to the 48-team field for the 2024 Women's National Invitational Tournament. Both teams will open postseason play on Thursday, March 21.
The Bulls will host Monmouth inside Alumni Arena on Thursday, while the Falcons will travel to Indianapolis to take on the Butler Bulldogs at Hinkle Fieldhouse.
The winner of Thursday's Buffalo and Monmouth contest will take on Duquesne, while the winner of Bowling Green and Butler game will meet Purdue in the second round, with date, site and time to be announced.
It is the second WNIT appearance for the Bulls, with the last time coming in 2015 where they faced West Virginia in the first round. This is the first overall meeting between the Buffalo and Monmouth programs. Monmouth is 21-9 on the season and went 14-4 in the Colonial Athletic Conference this year. The Hawks lost to eventual CAA champion Drexel 58-56in the quarterfinals of the CAA Tournament.
BGSU is appearing in the WNIT for the ninth time in program history, and the third time in four years. The Falcons enter the Butler game with an all-time record of 12-9 in the tourney.
The Falcons will take the court for Thursday's game with an overall record of 16-14. BGSU went 10-8 in Mid-American Conference play. BG was picked to finish fourth in the MAC in the preseason coaches poll, and despite losing an estimated 120 player-games to date due to injury, the Falcons finished the regular season in a tie for fourth in the conference
