WINSTON-SALEM, NC — It was Becca Klinewho played hero with the lone goal in the Miami University field hockey team's 1-0 win against No. 17 Wake Forest University on Sunday afternoon. This moves Miami to 7-3 on the season (2-0 in Mid-American Conference) and drops Wake Forest to 3-4.

Through the first quarter neither team was able to get on the board, keeping it a 0-0 game. The second quarter ended like the first, sending the RedHawks into the second half tied 0-0 with the Demon Deacons.

A strong Miami defense, led by Isabelle Perese's three saves, kept the game without a score through the end of the third. With under seven minutes remaining in the game, Kline put one in the back of the net for Miami to grab a 1-0 lead for the RedHawks.

MUNCIE, Ind. - The Ball State field hockey team (5-4) extended its win streak to five after the Cardinals shutout Lindenwood (1-5) 5-0 at the Briner Sports Complex Sunday afternoon. The five-game win streak is a first for the Cardinals since the 2006 season.

"I am extremely proud of the girls," Ball State head field hockey coach Caitlin Walsh said. "I think we had a great weekend. It was a good team win today and on Friday."

It was a defensive battle between the two squads in the opening minutes of play. The Cardinals were awarded a penalty shot at the 11:55 mark where Michaela Graney was able to convert to give Ball State the 1-0 edge over Lindenwood.

After that, the Cardinals offense was on fire connecting on all cylinders. Fleur Knopert found the back of the cage twice in the third quarter and added another one in the 51st minute of the final frame of action that pushed the Cardinals cushion to 4-0 versus the Lions.

With just 30 seconds remaining, Grace Clokie put the icing on the cake after taking advantage of a wide-open scoring circle to claim the Cardinals fifth goal of the day. Clokie got help from her teammate Nadine Loeps as she provided the assist. It was both a career first for Cloakie and Loeps.

Knopert led the team offensively after registering five shots, with three finding the cage. For the weekend, she scored six goals in total in two games and now has 11 goals on the season while also collecting 20 for her career.

Defensively, Ball State held Lindenwood scoreless for the full 60-minutes of play for its second-straight shutout win of the season. Goalie Hannah Johnston earned her fifth victory by fending off three LMU corners while also collecting a save.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The Bellarmine Knights field hockey team finished off its first road trip of the season in grand style, rolling to a 7-1 victory over Queens University behind a hat trick by senior Peyton Hobson.

The win came less than 48 hours after an exciting 3-2 double overtime victory at Longwood, giving the Knights a perfect 2-0 record on the road this season.

In today's game against the Royals, the outcome wasn't in doubt long as Bellarmine scored early and often in mounting leads of 4-1 and 6-1 after the first two periods.  Freshman Paige Hoyer got the scoring started when she converted a pass from Teresa Schmidt, who had corralled a pass from outside the from Anna Crump.  Less than two minutes later Hobson scored the first of her three goals on the season.

Although the Royals trimmed the deficit to 2-1 with about four and a half minutes remaining the first, the Knights had an almost immediate answer with Schmidt converting on a corner off a double assist from Alexa Rastigue and Alicia HudsonIsabel Gladys ended the first quarter's scoring with 1:41 remaining when she dribbled into the right side of the circle and drilled a shot into the cage.

Hoyer and Hobson struck again in the second quarter, and Hobson ended the game's scoring with a third quarter goal.

Hobson's hat trick is the first since Merit Harris scored three goals in a 4-0 win over Molloy on Oct. 15, 2017, and the seven goals by the Knights is the most as a Division I program and the most since 2019 when they put up seven against Mount Olive and nine against Frostburg State.

As the score indicates, Bellarmine dominated the stat sheet, outshooting Queens 24-3, including an 11-1 advantage in shots on goal.  Although there were only nine penalty corners awarded in the game, the Knights doubled up the Royals with a 6-3 edge.
