Kent State Advances to MAC Championship After Thrilling OT Victory

OXFORD, Ohio - The Kent State field hockey team (8-10, 5-2 MAC) won 3-2 in overtime against App State (14-5, 6-1 MAC) this afternoon to compete in the MAC Championship.

In the first quarter, the Mountaineers came out quickly on the offensive side by recording five shots and three corners. With a minute left, Mia Sarrabayrouse secured a defensive save during a penalty corner to keep the score 0-0.

Going into the second quarter, the Flashes earned the team's first corner of the game and Alex Sacker converted a goal to take the lead 1-0. Using Kent State's momentum, Patricia Strunk scored almost a minute later to bring the score 2-0. In the quarter, Flashes led in shots on goal (3-0) and corners (1-0).

Starting the third quarter, App State recorded three penalty corners within the first three minutes. Iris Bekker made her fourth defensive save of the season to keep the Mountaineers scoreless. After a penalty corner, the Mountaineers earned a penalty stroke and scored to take the score 2-1.

In the fourth quarter, App State ties the score, 2-2, after converting a penalty corner with seven minutes remaining. Both teams entered into overtime after Kent State led 4-2 in corners and tied 1-1 in shots on goal during the quarter.

In the seventh minute of overtime, Emma Rolston buried a goal to win the game 3-2.
