MAC Men’s Track Athlete of the Week
Yvan Lopes Ribeiro, Eastern Michigan
Junior, Nice, France
EMU track and field student-athlete Yvan Lopes Ribeiro was outstanding for Eastern Michigan as the team dominated at the Notre Dame Invitational, Jan. 21. As a team, Eastern won in convincing fashion, besting the second-place finisher, Southern Illinois, by 51 points.
Eastern was led by Lopes Ribeiro, who finished the day with three event victories. On the track, Lopes Ribeiro put forth his best-ever 60m Hurdle performance, setting a personal-record time of 7.78 seconds, which also goes down as the No. 6 performance in EMU school history. Additionally, his effort is the 14th-best by any student-athlete in the NCAA this season.
In the long jump, Lopes Ribeiro was equally as impressive. His winning effort of 7.47m was also the sixth-best effort in program history. He also won the triple jump with an effort of 14.96m.
MAC Men’s Field Athlete of the Week
Hunter Garrettson, Akron
Sophomore, Newcomerstown, OH
Akron redshirt sophomore Hunter Garretson captured the men's pole vault for the second consecutive week eclipsing a league-leading mark of 17-6.50 (5.35m) at the Akron-Kent State Dual on Friday, Jan. 20. His effort stands as the No. 18 performance in the NCAA this season.
MAC Women’s Track Athlete of the Week
Jenna Oriani, Ball State
Sophomore, Chardon, OH
Ball State sophomore Jenna Oriani won two events at the Gladstein Invitational last weekend. Oriani ran a 7.58 in the 60m, placing first in the event. She also won the 200m event running a 24.59. She now sits at second place in the MAC for the 60m (7.54) and third in the 200m (24.59).
MAC Women’s Field Co-Athletes of the Week
Christina Wende, Buffalo
Senior, Kenmore, NY
Christina won the Upstate Challenge Triple Jump setting a personal best and MAC leading mark of 12.61m/41'4.5". Her mark also ties for the 3rd best in UB program history.
Hayley Manners, Central Michigan,
Junior, Etobicoke, Ontario, Can.
Central Michigan's Hayley Manners won the long jump and placed fourth in leading the Chippewas at the Jack Skoog Open, their lone home meet of the season. Manners won the long jump with an impressive leap of 19 feet, 8 3/4 inches (6.01 meters), the second longest of the season by a MAC jumper. She also placed fourth in the 60-meter dash.
