Miami Selected as Preseason Field Hockey Favorite

CLEVELAND, Ohio - The Mid-American Conference field hockey head coaches have selected the Miami RedHawks to be the regular season MAC champs for the upcoming season.

The RedHawks, who received five first place votes to win the regular season title, will look to continue to build on five straight MAC Championships in 2017, 2018, 2019, the 2021 spring, and 2021 season. Last year, Miami posted a 12-11 (6-1 MAC) record and hosted its first ever NCAA Tournament Game against Maine. The RedHawks would go on to top the Black Bears in OT, 3-2.

Kent State was chosen to finish second in the poll and received a total of 52 points from the coaches with one vote to win the regular season. The Golden Flashes, who split a share of last year’s regular season title, finished 12-6 overall and 6-1 in MAC play.

Appalachian State finished third in the preseason poll after finishing last season 7-8 overall, and 3-4 in conference play. Longwood and Ohio finished at the four and five spots in the poll with Ball State, Bellarmine, and Central Michigan rounding out the preseason predictions.

Regular season action begins on Friday, August 26 and will conclude with the MAC Field Hockey Championship November 4-5 in Oxford, Ohio. Click here to view the complete 2022 MAC Women’s Field Hockey Schedule.
