MAC Baseball Co-Players of the Week
Mason Minzey, Ohio, Catcher
Senior, Grand Blanc, Mich.
Senior Mason Minzey was dominant at the plate this week, leading the Bobcats in batting average (.625), runs (8), hits (10), doubles (3), RBIs (8), slugging percentage (.938) and on-base percentage (.700). In all three victories over Eastern Michigan, Minzey contributed at least one RBI per game, highlighted by four RBIs in Ohio's 14-8 victory on April 16.
Garret Pike, Toledo, INF
Freshman, Waterville, Ohio (Anthony Wayne)
Freshman Garret Pike was terrific in Toledo's weekend series against Kent State, hitting .625 in four games. He had multiple hits in three out of four contests and reached base at least twice in all four games. He went 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBIs in the series opener on Friday. On Saturday, Pike scored the game-winning run in UT's walk-off victory in the first game of the doubleheader, then drove in the game-winning run in the second walk-off victory of the day. Pike went 3-for-4 in game two with a pair of RBIs and scored twice. The freshman was excellent in the series finale as well, going 4-for-5 at the plate and scoring the go-ahead run in the seventh inning of Toledo's 5-4 win. Pike has raised his batting average nearly 50 points in the month of April and is now hitting .344. The freshman is hitting .347 in MAC play while slugging .507 and getting on base at a .443 clip.
MAC Baseball Co-Pitchers of the Week
Andrew Taylor, Central Michigan, Pitcher
Sophomore, Alto, Mich./Caledonia
Taylor dominated his outing against Bowling Green with 12 strike outs over 6.1 innings, allowing just one run and three hits. The sophomore posted a WHIP of 0.78 and only allowed an opposing batting average of .136. Taylor has allowed just five earned runs over his five MAC starts this season.
Tyler Schweitzer, Ball State, Pitcher
Junior, Fishers, Ind. / Hamilton Southeastern
Tyler Schweitzer was dominant in a complete-game effort with a career-high 12 strikeouts. He improved to 5-2 as he allowed a single run on just four hits. He held the Zips to a .160 batting average.
