MAC Joins ALL IN Campus Democracy Challenge

CLEVELAND, OH – The Mid-American Conference announced today that is has joined the ALL IN Campus Democracy Challenge (ALL IN), a national initiative of the 501(c)(3) Civic Nation, that  recognizes colleges and universities for their commitment to nonpartisan democratic engagement efforts and  increasing student voting rates. ALL IN encourages higher education institutions to help students form the habits of active and informed citizenship, make participation a core value on their campus, and cultivate generations of engaged citizens.

“For a number of years our membership has encouraged its student-athletes to be civically and socially engaged,” said MAC Commissioner Jon Steinbrecher. “We talk about “Taking MACtion.”  In other words, being aware of issues and participating in their debate and the decision-making process.  The partnership with All In is intended to assist the student-athletes in their efforts to make their voices heard.”

"Nonpartisan engagement in the electoral process is a life skill all student-athletes, all students in general, should learn. At ALL IN, we're grateful to the MAC and the respective institutions of the conference for prioritizing such a skill," ALL IN Campus Challenge Senior Director of Strategic Initiatives Stephanie King said.

By joining ALL IN, the MAC institutions are making the commitment to developing and implementing an action plan to improve nonpartisan civic engagement at each campus with the assistance of a designated committee of relevant stakeholders on their campus. Participation in ALL IN will also be considered part of the school’s community service and civic engagement efforts.

ALL IN does not support or oppose candidates for public office or take a stand for or against any political party. It encourages active and informed participation in American democracy.
