Walendzak, Kartusch Secure Scholar Athlete of the Week Honors

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Mid-American Conference announced today its Scholar Athletes of the Week. Toledo senior Connor Walendzak (football) and Bowling Green junior Addison Kartusch (women's golf) earned the male and female honors, respectively, for their performances in the previous week.

The Scholar Athlete of the Week Award is presented to a MAC male and/or female student-athlete who has a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better and performs well during that week's competition. An institution can nominate up to one male and one female student-athlete per week in any of that current season's sports. The winners are selected by a representative of the MAC's Faculty Athletics Representatives (FARs).

Week’s Achievements: Kartusch, a junior from Winnipeg, Manitoba, finished as Co-Champion at the Diane Thomason Invitational hosted by the University of Iowa. The junior fired a second round of 66 (-5), the low for the tournament field. She led the field in birdies (11) and led in par 5 scoring at 6 under par. This victory is Kartusch's second of the fall season and the fourth individual win of her career, which is the all-time record for individual victories at BGSU.

Week’s Achievements (detailed description of week’s events): Senior Connor Walendzak helped Toledo win its fourth straight game and open Mid-American Conference play with a 39-24 victory at Ball State by rushing for a career-high 103 yards on 16 carries. Walendzak’s 30-yard touchdown run gave the Rockets a 22-10 lead with 2:57 remaining in the third quarter. Walendzak and fellow running back CJ Miller each eclipsed 100 yards, marking the first time Toledo has had two running backs rush for 100 yards in the same game since Nov. 15, 2018.
