Miami Wins Sixth Consecutive MAC Tournament Title

Oxford, Ohio -- The No. 1 Miami RedHawks have claimed the 2022 MAC Field Hockey Tournament title after topping No. 3 App State, 3-1. This marks the sixth consecutive title for the RedHawks. 

With less than four minutes remaining in the first quarter, the RedHawks struck first. Paula Peña Martinez scored, taking a 1-0 lead for Miami. She was assisted by Luli Rosso. The RedHawks held their 1-0 lead through the end of the first quarter.

Through a back-and-forth second quarter the RedHawks successfully defended eight penalty corners and held their 1-0 lead through the end of the half. Under three minutes into the third quarter, Peña Martinez scored again, doubling the RedHawks' lead to 2-0. She was again assisted by Rosso.

With just under 10 minutes remaining in the fourth quarter, Peña Martinez scored again, earning herself a hat trick and giving the RedHawks a 3-0 lead.

The Mountaineers grabbed a goal with just over six minutes left in the quarter, shortening their deficit to 3-1.

The win advances the RedHawks to the NCAA Tournament. Matchups for that tournament will be released during the NCAA Tournament Selection Show on Sunday, Nov. 6 at 10 p.m.
