Kent State senior Sincere Carry was nominated to the preseason All-MAC First Team. The Golden Flashes' point guard appeared in 34 games, starting in 33 during the 2021-22 season. Carry averaged a team-high of 17.9 points per game. Carry was also named 2022 Mid-American Conference Player of the Year, the ALL-MAC First team, and the ALL-MAC Defensive Team.
All-MAC Defensive team member, senior Malique Jacobs, was nominated to the preseason All-MAC Second team. Jacobs appeared in 33 games, starting in 30 and averaged 12.9 points, 7.5 rebounds, and 3.2 assists per game. The Golden Flashes senior was also the first point guard in Kent State since Demetric Shaw in 2001 to lead the team in rebounding and recorded the first triple-double in Kent State history against Ball State with 17 points and 11 rebounds.
Head Coach Rob Senderoff completed his eleventh season as Kent State's head coach and rank all-time winningest coach in program history with 219 wins. Senderoff was named the Mid-American Conference Coach of the year after leading the Golden Flashes on a 14-game win streak and an appearance in the 2021-22 MAC Championship game. Senderoff will return with ten players from the previous Golden Flashes team including five players with 14 or more starts from a season ago.
Miryne Thomas and Giovanni Santiago are both expected to help the squad make another MAC Championship appearance. Thomas, Golden Flashes transfer from Ball State, started in all 30 games in 2021-22 for the Cardinals. Thomas averaged 11.3 points, 4.9 rebounds, and 1.9 assists per game. Santiago, Golden Flashes guard, recorded a career-high 21 points in the 2021-22 season, playing in 28 games. Santiago also was one of the five Golden Flashes with a 20-point game, leading the flashes in scoring and assists three times in their previous season.
The Golden Flashes continue to look to strengthen their team with a new group of freshmen that includes Brenden Moss, Delrecco Gillespie, London Maiden and transfers Robert Carpenter and Mike Bekelja. Bekelja, a transfer from Duquesne, is playing with now teammate and brother of Sincere Carry. Bekelja played in 39 games for the Dukes over the past two seasons, making 11 starts.
