KENT, OH – The University at Buffalo women's soccer team (13-1-4, 7-0-4 MAC) claimed the third Mid-American Conference regular season championship in program history on Thursday afternoon. The Bulls dominated Kent State, defeating the Golden Flashes 2-0 to earn their first regular season title since 2014.

With the win the Bulls set a new program record, extending their unbeaten streak to 15 games, besting the previous mark of 14 set by the 2014 squad.

The Bulls controlled the pace from the opening kickoff and the aggression paid off in the 12th minute as Payton Robertson played a ball through to Jasmine Guerber who drilled a shot top shelf to give the Bulls an early 1-0 lead.

Buffalo continued to attack in the 26th minute as Robertson delivered another great pass to Leah Wengender who broke free just inside the box and ripped a shot into the top left corner of the net to put UB up 2-0.

The Golden Flashes got the ball into their final third a few times late in the half, most dangerously in the 44th minute as Lauryn Arruda ripped a shot on net but Emily Kelly made a fantastic save to knock the ball out of play and preserve the two-goal lead at the half.

The Bulls continued to dominate to start the second half as Ellie Simmons took a corner kick in the 50th minute and played a great ball into the box that found the head of Tess Ford who flicked a ball on net that missed just wide.

Kelly continued to be a force between the pipes in the 61st minute as the Golden Flashes curled a ball on net but Kelly leaped and punched the ball out of play.

Buffalo had another scoring opportunity in the 74th minute as Arianna Zumpano was taken down just outside the box, setting up a free kick for Simmons who drilled a shot through the box that just missed the right post. Later, Robertson broke free in the middle of the box and fired a shot at the corner of the net that slid wide right, but the Bulls controlled possession the rest of the game to secure the victory.

Kelly finished the day with two saves as she and the UB backline recorded their 12th shutout of the season, which is tied for second all-time in program history. The UB coaches gave Player of the Game to the whole team for their accomplishments.

"Really proud and so happy for the players," said head coach Shawn Burke. "To concede a goal late on Sunday and then to see the way they responded today and the way they were up for it and how bad they wanted it, they gave a great performance. Really happy for them and they deserve all the joy they are going to get right now and the fact that are going to host next week."

Up next, the Bulls host the winner of No. 4 seed Ohio and No. 5 seed Miami (OH) at UB Stadium in the semifinals of the MAC Tournament on Thursday, November 3 at 5pm.

MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – The Ball State soccer team closed out the regular season with a 2-1 victory on the road against Central Michigan on Thursday. The Cardinals were led by Lexi Fraley and Delaney Caldwell as each scored a goal.

Ball State finished the Mid-American Conference regular season without a road loss, which was the first time under Head Coach Josh Rife. This marks the third time in BSU history that the Cardinals did not lose a road contest.

"Great performance from the team today," said Coach Rife. "This group has been resilient all year and blocked out a lot of noise about what they weren't going to do this year. To go and earn a first-round bye in an incredibly difficult conference is quite an achievement. The focus now shifts towards the MAC tournament."

The Cardinals end the regular season 7-4-7 overall and 6-1-4 in conference play, while the Chippewas fell to 2-11-5 overall and 1-6-4 in the MAC.

Fraley took a pass and made a great play to flick the ball around the defender to setup a 1-on-1 situation with the keeper. Fraley flicked it over the keeper and tapped it in the empty net just five minutes into the match.

The Cardinals notched six shots on goal in the first half and held the Chippewas to three shots on goal. Bethany Moser made three saves.

Ball State kept the pressure on to start the second half. In the 52nd minute, the Cardinals recorded multiple shots inside the box that were either blocked or saved. Caldwell collected the rebound and buried it into the back of the net to put BSU on top 2-0.

Maggie Basse put the Chippewas on the scoreboard in the 81st minute and made the final score 2-1 in favor of the Cardinals.

Moser ended the match with four saves. The Cardinal defense held the Chippewas to six shots for the match. Caldwell collected her seventh goal of the season and has 15 points. Fraley recorded her fifth goal of the year and has 12 points.

Ball State awaits the winner of the No. 6 seed Western Michigan and No. 3 Bowling Green match on Thursday, Nov. 3. The Cardinals' match is scheduled for a 7:30 p.m. first touch in Buffalo, New York.

TOLEDO, Ohio – Tied 2-2 late in the game, Western Michigan freshman midfielder Heidi Thomasma stole the ball from a Toledo defender just outside the right corner of the box and lofted a shot over the UT goalie and into the net to send the WMU women's soccer team to the Mid-American Conference Tournament.

The Broncos will head to Bowling Green to take on the Falcons on Sunday at 1 p.m. in the MAC Quarterfinals.

Western Michigan went down 1-0 early in the game, with former Bronco Morgan Otteson scoring in the ninth minute on a counter attack. WMU went into the second half trailing 1-0 but tied it up just 2:25 into the second half on a goal by Emily Pagett. Pagett was played behind the Toledo back line and fired a shot from the top-right corner of the box and into the left side of the net for her second goal of the season.

WMU took the lead in the 56th minute on a goal by Jaden Peck. A corner kick was served in and there was a scrum in front of the net to clear the ball. Toledo, once again, scored on the counter attack, this time with Kaema Maachree scoring to tie it up at 2-2 in the 60th minute.
