CLEVELAND, Ohio -- The Mid-American Conference Men's Soccer Head Coaches have made their preseason predictions for the 2021 season. West Virginia edged out both Akron and Bowling Green in the poll and was selected to take home the 2021 MAC Men’s Soccer regular season title as well as the MAC Tournament Championship.
Akron received 39 points and one first place vote to finish second in the poll. Bowling Green was picked to place third in the poll, followed by Western Michigan, Northern Illinois, and new MAC affilates Georgia State and Georgia Southern respectively.
The West Virginia Mountaineers will return 15 lettermen, including 10 of 11 starters from last spring. WVU, who finished 6-3-1 last spring in head coach Dan Stratford's debut season, have reached two of the last three NCAA Tournaments. The team won the 2018 MAC regular-season title and the 2019 MAC Tournament crown.
The MAC men’s soccer season begins on Thursday, August 26th, while conference play is set to begin on Thursday, September 30th. The season will culminate with the MAC Men’s Soccer Championship, which takes place November 10 (Semifinals) and November 13 (Finals) at the regular season champions home pitch.
