FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Kent State Golden Flashes have claimed the 2021 Mid-American Conference Men's Golf Championship. The title marks the 27th in program history.
The Golden Flashes finished the third round Championship at Sycamore Hills Golf Club with a score of 910 (+46). Northern Illinois finished in second place (923), while Ball State (927), Miami (929) and Eastern Michigan (934) rounded out the Top-5.
Kent State also took individual medalist honors, with Chris Vandette finishing first overall. Over three rounds, the senior finished at +10 (75-75-76 = 226).
After the tournament, the 2021 MAC men's golf postseson awards were handed out. Kent State'ss Cade Breitenstine was named Golfer of the Year, while Toledo's Barend Both claimed Freshman of the Year honros. Kent State head coach Jon Mills was awarded the Kermit Blosser Coach of the Year Award and Miami's Cam Solomon was voted to win the Earl Yestingsmeier Sportrsman of the Year by his peers, which rounded out the postseason honors.
The Flashes will move on to the NCAA Regional Tournament and will learn their Regional destination on Wednesday, May 5 during the NCAA Selection Show, which airs on the Golf Channel at 2 p.m. Regional play for the 2021 Division I Men's Golf Championships will be held May 17-19.
