Miami Wins Fourth Straight MAC Field Hockey Title

OXFORD, Ohio — Seven goals from six different RedHawks and a shutout performance from Isabelle Perese propelled the Miami University field hockey team to a 7-0 victory over Appalachian State on Saturday afternoon at the Miami Field Hockey Complex.

Claudia Negrete Garcia, Noor Breedijk, Neely Lochmoeller, Allie Grace Joyner, Lexie Nugent, and Laurel Dortch all scored in the contest for Miami (11-1, 8-0 MAC), which allowed the RedHawks to clinch the 2020 Mid-American Conference title for the season, along with an NCAA tournament berth.

Negrete, Leonor Berlie, Paula Peña, and Luli Rosso each tallied assists for Miami. The defense was critical for Miami, as the 'Hawks held the Mountaineers to no shots and no penalty corners in the match. Miami outshot App State by a massive 16-0 margin and had eight penalty corners.

fter the series sweep, the RedHawks will travel to MAC opponent Ball State on April 23 and 24. Game one of the series on Friday, April 23, is scheduled for 1 p.m. in Muncie.
