CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Mid-American Conference announced Tuesday afternoon that the Akron Zips have been selected by the six MAC Men's Soccer coaches to win the 2021 spring regular season.
Akron is set to return seven starters in 2020, including 2019 All-MAC performers, juniors Colin Biros (Jackson, Ohio) and Carlo Ritaccio (Westbury, N.Y.) from a squad that captured the 2019 Mid-American Conference regular season title.
The Western Michigan Broncos finished second in the poll and received two first place votes. WMU will return Sophomore Brennan Creek who was a First Team All-MAC selection, along with Charlie Sharp who in 2019 went on to become the first student-athlete in program history to be named MAC Freshman of the Year.
Bowling Green will look to continue their recent success after closing the 2019 season with an overall record of 13-7-1. The Falcons posted a double-digit win total for the first time since 2014 and just the second time since 1998.
The 2019 MAC Tournament Champion West Virginia Mountaineers will take the field for the first time since winning the title. First year Head Coach Dan Stratford will make his WVU debut on Friday, February 26 when they travel to Charlotte.
The Northern Illinois Huskies and the SIUE Cougars round out the MAC finishing the poll in 5th and 6th place.
