MAC Volleyball All-MAC Teams, Specialty Awards Announced

Cleveland, Ohio - Today the Mid-American Conference announced the All-MAC Teams & Specialty Award selections for the 2021 volleyball season. All of the awards were voted on by the league's 12 head coaches.

Ball State head coach Kelli Miller Phillips was named the MAC Coach of the Year after leading the program to a 17-1 league mark and to the program's ninth MAC Regular Season title. Ball State also collected its fourth MAC West Division Championship in Phillips six seasons at the helm. Phillips is the third coach in program history to earn MAC Coach of the Year honors, joining five-time selection Randy Litchfield (1991, 1993, 1994, 1999 and 2002) and Steve Shondell (2010).

Bowling Green's Petra Indrova was named Player of the Year after registering 281 kills and 4.61 kills per set in conference matches, both MAC-highs. She also ranked second in the MAC with 0.39 aces per set, landing 24 in conference play. Indrova led the MAC with 336.0 points, logging six double-doubles in the process. She was named MAC East Offensive Player of the Week five times this season. Indrova is the fifth player in program history to be named MAC Player of the Year. This is her second consecutive season on the All-MAC First Team.

BGSU's Julia Walz was named Defensive Player of the Year. Walz logged 389 digs for a conference-best 6.38 digs per set. Walz led a Falcon defensive unit that limited conference opponents to a .158 attack percentage, the best in the MAC. The senior was a seven-time MAC East Defensive Player of the Week selection. Walz ranked seventh in the conference with 0.34 aces per set and tallied 20 or more digs in nine conference matches. This is the second All-MAC recognition for Walz, who was named All-MAC Honorable Mention in 2019.

A five-time MAC West Setter of the Week award winner, Western Michigan's Logan Case led the Mid-American Conference in both total assists (1223) and assists/set (11.65) this season. Her 11.65 assists/set currently rank fourth nationally. In conference play, the sophomore’s assist/set rate bumped even higher, up to 11.90. Case is the second Bronco to win the Setter of the Year award two seasons in a row, as Jillian Mitchell (2006-09) also went back-to-back in 2008 and 2009.

BSU setter Megan Wielonski who became just the fourth player in program history to earn MAC Freshman of the Year honors. She was also named to the All-MAC First Team and MAC All-Freshman squads. Wielonski played in all 66 league sets, helping Ball State's offense lead the league with a .294 attack percentage, .030 higher than any other MAC program. She was a four-time MAC West Division Setter of the Week selection.
