Toledo Travels to Bloomington for NCAA Volleyball Tournament First Round Matchup

TOLEDO, Ohio – The Toledo women's volleyball team will take on No. 4 seed Indiana in the first round of the NCAA Tournament on Thursday, Dec. 4 in Bloomington, Ind. The match will be streamed on ESPN+.

The Rockets and Hoosiers will face off at Wilkinson Hall on the campus of Indiana University at approximately 5:30 p.m. The match will begin 30 minutes following the conclusion of the No. 5 Colorado/American matchup that begins at 3:00 p.m. The winners of each match will face off in the second round on Friday, Dec. 5 at 6:00 p.m.

ROCKET NOTES
  • Thursday's match marks the first-ever NCAA Tournament action for Toledo.
  • The Rockets defeated No. 5 seed Miami, No. 1 seed Ball State and No. 2 seed Western Michigan during the Mid-American Conference Tournament to clinch their first-ever conference tournament championship and automatic qualifier to the NCAA Tournament.
  • Freshman Jessica Costlow was named the MAC Tournament MVP after tallying 56 kills and 52 digs through three matches. Costlow posted 22 kills in the win over Miami and 21 kills in the championship match against WMU. Grace Freiberger and Kelsey Smith also earned MAC All-Tournament Team honors.
  • UT leads the country in total service aces, firing off 261 throughout the season. Freiberger has a team-best 51 aces and is the first Rocket since Kate Bean in 2008 with 50 or more in a single season.
  • Freiberger is third in the nation in total digs with 620, a mark which broke the single season program record. The sophomore libero is the only player in the country with 620 digs and 50-plus service aces.
  • Smith ranks fourth nationally in total assists with 1,259. The senior setter is the only player in the nation with 1,250 assists, 330 digs, 100 kills and 75 blocks.
  • Sierra Pertzborn set the single season program record in total blocks, recording 137 this season. The redshirt sophomore bested Wendy Vogel's record of 131 that was set in 1986.
  • Head Coach Brian Wright has become the first head coach to tally 20-plus wins in their first season at the helm of the Rockets. The 23 total wins are the second-most in program history behind the 1983 squad's 27 wins.
