Akron Defends Men's Indoor Track & Field Title

AKRON, Ohio - 
The Akron Zips Men's Track and Field team captured their sixth MAC league title in the last seven seasons on Saturday at the 2020 MAC Indoor Track and Field Championships. 

Eastern Michigan’s Owen Day earned his third-straight title in the mile, finishing with a time of 4:06.86. Day climbed back on top of the podium in 800m, after edging out a 1:51.38.
 
The Eagles continued their success in the 60m Hurdles as Devonte Findlay crossed in 7.89 to capture first. 
 
After winning the 5000m on Friday, Baldvin Magnusson picked up his second individual distance title of the championships with an 8:18.44 showing in the 3000m.
 
Buffalo’s Shevaugh Allen captured the triple jump title with a leap of15.82m (51’11”), becoming the first Bull since 2007 to earn the crown.

Akron notched a 1-2 in the 60m and 400m. Demetrius Jackson and Amir Willis respectively posted times of 6.78 and 6.81 in the 60m. In the 400m, Noah Williams crossed first in 46.13 and Zarik Brown followed at 46.86.
 
Jackson and Williams produced another 1-2 finish for the Zips in the 200m, respectively finishing in 20.75 and 20.89.
 
Kent State’s TJ Lawson defended his title in the Men’s Heptathlon after collecting 5723 points, setting a MAC Championship Meet record The redshirt-senior bested the previous record held by UB’s Mike Morgan by 19 points.

The shot put competition was won by Kent State’s Walter Petzel, with a loft of 17.18m (56' 4½"). 

Akron's Nuh Andu closed out the championships’ field events, with a clearance in the high jump of 2.11m (6' 11").
 
The 2020 Championships came to a close with a 3:07.89 finish in the 4x400 by Akron’s relay team of Noah Williams, Amir Willis, Demetrius Jackson and Zarik Brown. 

Selections for the 2020 NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships will be announced on March 3rd at 10:00 pm ET.
