Wrestling Suffers 28-11 Loss To Visiting No. 25 Rider Friday Night In Home Opener
BLOOMSBURG, Pa. - The Bloomsburg University wrestling team ushered in a new era on Friday night by hosting the program's first-ever contest in the Mid-American Conference (MAC) at the Nelson Field House. Despite a hotly contested, and sometimes heated battle, against 25th-ranked Rider University, the Huskies came up on the short end of a 28-11 decision at the hands of the Broncs to fall to 0-2 on the season and 0-1 in the MAC. Rider improved to 3-0 overall and 2-0 in conference action.

Wrestling Drops Season-Opening Dual At Bucknell Thursday Night
LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Bloomsburg University wrestling team opened the 2019-20 dual portion of its schedule on Thursday night and dropped a 24-13 decision at Bucknell University. The Bison improved to 1-2 on the young season. All three of Bloomsburg's victories on Thursday night came with bonus points as redshirt senior Trevor Allard earned a technical fall at 184 pounds while redshirt freshman Josh Mason and senior Nate Newberry posted major decision wins at 133 pounds and 157 pounds, respectively.

Buffalo:
Buffalo Takes Down West Virginia for First Victory over a Big 12 Program
MORGANTOWN, WV – The University at Buffalo wrestling team defeated West Virginia, 24-12, at the WVU Coliseum on Sunday afternoon. It was the first win over a Big 12 Conference opponent in program history. Head Coach John Stutzman leaned on his young lineup and they responded. Four of the Bulls' six wins in the dual came from first-year starters. After falling behind, 3-0, in the dual, Derek Spann continued his dominant ways with a 19-4 technical fall win over Lucas Seibert. It was his second tech fall of the weekend. Spann was sparked by a 4-point nearfall late in the first period. He added a 4-point nearfall and a 2-point nearfall in the second period to pull away.

Bulls Drop Close Dual with Cleveland State, 19-17
BUFFALO, NY – The University at Buffalo wrestling team dropped a tight dual with Cleveland State, 19-17, at Alumni Arena on Friday night. The Vikings won the last two matches of the night to escape with the two-point victory. Derek Spann got the Bulls on the board first with a 21-2 technical fall victory over Justin Patrick at 133 lbs. Spann used three four-point nearfalls to improve to 5-1 in duals on the season.

Chippewas Knock Off No. 25 Lock Haven
LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Central Michigan wrestling team won seven matches, three of them by major decision, on Friday in knocking off 25th-ranked Lock Haven, 24-12, in the Chippewas' first Mid-American Conference dual of the season. The win lifted CMU to 1-1 and gave the Chippewas a shot of confidence coming off a 22-12 loss to Michigan two weeks ago in their first dual of the season. Friday's meet was Lock Haven's first dual of the season and its first as a new member of the MAC.

Bulsak, Zacherl Both Place at 2019 Cliff Keen Invitational
LAS VEGAS, Nev. – Greg Bulsak and Brock Zacherl wrapped their weekends at the Cliff Keen Invitational by earning spots on the podium, with Bulsak taking sixth and Zacherl seventh by virtue of impressive wins over nationally-ranked opponents on Saturday. Bulsak started his day in the second consolation round of eight against third-seeded Tanner Sloan of South Dakota State, with the latter entering the weekend ranked 11th in the country at 197 pounds according to FloWrestling. With the score tied at 2-2 early in the second period, Bulsak escaped and reversed Sloan and immediately went to work. He tilted his opponent and flattened him for the win by fall to move to the consi round of four against second-seeded and ninth-ranked Jay Aiello of Virginia. Bulsak led 3-1 after two periods and upped the lead to 5-2, and then held on for the 7-4 decision.

Bulsak, Zacherl In the Hunt for the Podium at Cliff Keen Invitational
LAS VEGAS, Nev. – The Clarion wrestling team headed out to one of the most prestigious midseason tournaments in the country on Friday, with two Golden Eagles advancing into Saturday's action at the Cliff Keen Invitational. Both Greg Bulsak and Brock Zacherl will look to reach the podium on the second day of the event. While four total Golden Eagles won at least one match in their respective championship brackets – Avery Shayand Ty Bagoly also picked up wins on Friday – Bulsak and Zacherl both put themselves in position to medal for the second straight year.

Chippewas Defeat Another Ranked Opponent
LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J. – Central Michigan got back-to-back pins from Matt Stencel and Drew Hildebrandt to take control on Sunday as the Chippewas posted a 28-10 Mid-American Conference wrestling dual-meet victory over 20th-ranked Rider. The victory was CMU's second of the weekend as it improved to 2-1, 2-0 MAC. Rider is 3-1, 2-1. On Friday, the Chippewas topped No. 25 Lock Haven, 24-12. Just as they did on Friday against Lock Haven, the Chippewas scored bonus points in three of their seven wins against Rider.

Vikings Come Back to Win Thriller in MAC Opener
BUFFALO, N.Y. -- The Cleveland State University wrestling team trailed by four points with two bouts left, but the Vikings won the final two matches of the evening in thrilling fashion to claim a 19-17 win at Buffalo in each team's Mid-American Conference opener Friday evening inside Alumni Arena. Sophomore Ben Smith and redshirt sophomore John Kelbly ensured the historic dual was a win for CSU as both Vikings won must-win bouts to help the guests claim a victory in their first dual as a member of the Mid-American Conference.

Rodriguez Eliminated by Sixth-Seed Courtney at Las Vegas Invitational
LAS VEGAS, Nev. – Edinboro's first journey to the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational under second-year head coach Matt Hill came to an end on Saturday morning with Lucas Rodriguez losing his consolation round match. The Las Vegas Convention Center South Hall hosted the prestigious event. Competing at 125 lbs., Rodriguez lost his first match but proceeded to pick up a pair of wins in the consolation bracket to become the lone Fighting Scot to reach Saturday's third session.

Mason Sweeps Patriot Duals
FAIRFAX, Va. -- George Mason wasn't the most gracious host today. The Patriots swept all four dual matches at Patriot Duals held today at the Mason Field House on campus. Mason (5-1, 1-0 MAC) defeated VMI (27-16), Gardner-Webb (36-10), Davidson (41-3) and LIU (43-6). The Patriots earned points in 32 of the 40 matches. Josh Jones improved to 6-6 on the season with three straight wins. The fourth match was a forfeit. The freshman earned an impressive win over Michael Pappaconstantinou from Gardner-Webb with a fall at 0:54.

Rooney Finishes Eighth To Lead Flashes In Vegas
LAS VEGAS, NEVADA- Tim Rooney finished eighth to lead Kent State in a loaded field at the annual Cliff Keen Invitational at the Las Vegas Convention Center. Rooney had advanced to the quarterfinals in day one of the two-day event but fell to the bracket's second-ranked wrestler, Montorie Bridges of Wyoming. That dropped Rooney into the consolation bracket on Saturday. He matched up with Northern Iowa's Jack Skudlarczyk. Rooney would earn a 6-5 victory by decision over the UNI wrestler to move on in the bracket.

Rooney Into Quarterfinals To Lead Flashes
LAS VEGAS, NEVADA- Tim Rooney advanced into the quarterfinals in the 133-pound bracket to lead the Flashes to sit 16th out of 32 teams after day one in the loaded Cliff Keen Invitational. After receiving a bye in the opening round of the championship bracket, Rooney, the seventh-ranked wrestler in the 133-pound tournament, Rooney avenged an earlier season loss. The senior defeated Tye Varnell of Edinboro by a 4-1 decision after falling to him as part of the Kent State tri-meet earlier this season. Rooney's Friday would end with a tough 6-4 decision setback to the nation's #7 wrestler at 133, Montorie Bridges of Wyoming.

Ross leads the way at Patriot Open
FAIRFAX, Va. – The No. 25 Lock Haven University wrestling team sent a small unattached contingent to the Patriot Open hosted by George Mason on Saturday, Dec. 7, and it was Jonathan Ross who led the way for the Bald Eagles. Ross was 4-2 on the day and he placed sixth at 157 pounds. He had one tech fall and a pin on the day. Ross, who is planning to redshirt the season, now has 21 wins on the season as he pushed his unattached season record to 21-4 overall.

Wrestling Falls To Central Michigan
LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The No. 25 Lock Haven University wrestling team (0-1) got major decisions from No. 22 DJ Fehlman(Warren, Pa./Warren), Jared Siegrist (Manheim, Pa./Manheim Central) and No. 14 Corey Hazel (Spring Mills, Pa./Penns Valley), but it wasn't enough as visiting Central Michigan (1-1) won seven of 10 bouts and took the Mid-American Conference (MAC) East-West Crossover, 24-12. It marked a historic night for LHU wrestling as tonight's dual was the Bald Eagles first dual vs. a MAC member as a member of the Mid-American Conference.

No. 12 Mizzou Wrestling Earns Cougar Clash Title
EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – No. 12 Mizzou Wrestling earned the 2019 Cougar Clash Tournament Championship Saturday (Dec. 7), earning 138.5 total team points to defeat No. 9 Wisconsin, Michigan State, Little Rock, Brown and SIU-Edwardsville. Mizzou had five grapplers earn titles at their respective weight classes. Second-ranked Brock Mauller took home the title at 149 pounds and his high school teammate and classmate No. 14 Jarrett Jacques earned top honors at 157 pounds. Jeremiah Kent took home the title at 174 while scoring a team-high 17.5 points for the team, tallying a fall and a technical fall.

Huskies Battle in Setback at Illinois
CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – Four Huskie grapplers posted wins over ranked foes as the Northern Illinois University wrestling team suffered a 22-15 setback to in-state foe Illinois at Huff Hall Friday night. NIU (4-3, 1-1) split five of the 10 matches on the day, However, Illinois' (3-1) fast start to the day propelled the Illini to the victory. Illinois opened up a 15-0 advantage over the shorthanded Huskies, winning the first three bouts. After suffering a 5-2 loss at 125, NIU had to forfeit the match at 133 and Nathan Swartz, who is in for Caleb Brooks, suffered a fall in the first period at 141.

Six Monarchs Place at Patriot Open
FAIRFAX, Va. – Six Old Dominion wrestlers placed in the 2019 Patriot Open, hosted by George Mason University on Saturday. Both Kenan Carter and Alex Cramer placed fourth at 149 and 174 pounds, respectively. Seniors Steven Simpson and Tim Young each placed fifth in their weight classes, while Kellen Ekern and Dean Drugac settled into sixth place in their brackets. Carter advanced to the semifinals at 149 pounds after pinning Virginia Tech's Caden Darber and earning a 7-4 win by decision over Columbia's Andrew Garr. In the semis, Carter matched up against No. 15 Kizhan Clarke of American, who dispatched Carter in a major decision, 15-4. Carter placed fourth after a medical forfeit in the third-place bout.

Wrestling Falls To Central Michigan, 28-10
LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ – The nationally-ranked No. 20 Rider University wrestling team won three of the first four matches, but fell to MAC foe Central Michigan, 28-10, Sunday afternoon at Alumni Gym. With the loss, the Broncs fall to 3-1 (2-1 MAC), while the Chippewas are now 2-1 (2-0 MAC). With the match starting at 165, the Chippewas took a 3-2 decision on the strength of riding time, giving them the 3-0 match lead. Rider fought back with three-straight wins at 174, 184 and 197 to take a 10-3 lead. Dean Sherry (Brick, NJ/Brick Township) defeated Jake Lowell, 8-3, while George Walton (Franklin, NJ/Bound Brook) dominated Ben Cushman for a 20-7 major decision. Ethan Laird (Waterford, PA/General McLane) also held off Landon Pelham at 197, 3-2.

Wrestling Earns Road MAC Win at Bloomsburg, 28-11
BLOOMSBURG, PA – Seven Broncs won their matches as the Rider University wrestling team earned a 28-11 road win at Mid-American Conference foe Bloomsburg Friday night. A fall from Robbie Cleary (Edison, NJ/Bound Brook [Rutgers]) at 141 put the Broncs on top for good, as the Broncs improved to 3-0 (2-0 MAC) on the season. Bloomsburg fell to 0-2 (0-1 MAC) with the setback. Rider was first on the board with a win by decision at 125 from Jonathan Tropea eph over Christian Gannone. The Huskies would answer back with a fall at 133 to take a 6-3 lead, but Rider retook the lead for good at 141 with Cleary's win by fall over Aaron Coleman with 4:28.

Williams Leads SIUE At Cougar Clash
EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. - Six SIUE wrestlers finished in the top six Saturday for the Cougar Clash in First Community Center at the Vadalabene Center. Tyshawn Williams was SIUE's top placewinner with second at 149 pounds. Despite two early takedowns in the championship match, Williams was bested by Missouri's Brock Mauller 8-4. Justin Ruffin again continued his strong start to the season with a third-place finish. After dropping his semifinal to Michigan State's Jake Tucker in overtime, he fought back for a convincing third-place win over Wisconsin's Drew Scharenbrock 15-2.
