MAC Storylines
• Midweek MACtion is coming Nov. 5th! The MAC will play 14 games on national television with games on Tuesday (8 games), Wednesday (5 games) and Thursday (1 game) during the final four weeks of the regular season in November on national television with ESPN2, ESPNU, ESPN+ and CBS Sports Network providing coverage. The MAC began midweek football in 1999 and this year marks the 21st season of MAC midweek football.
• Week 11 features only three games as the transition toward November midweek MACtion continues for the final stretch of the 2019 regular season. On Tuesday, Nov. 5 Kent State will travel to Toledo at 7:00 pm ET (CBS Sports Network), while Ball State will visit Western Michigan at 8:00 pm ET (ESPN2). On Wednesday, Nov. 6 Miami heads to Ohio at 8:00 pm ET (ESPN2). The Kent State at Toledo contest will be another crossover contest. This season, the MAC West Division has a 6-5 record over MAC East Division opponents in MAC crossover contests.
• Ohio head coach Frank Solich needs one more win to become the MAC’s all-time winningest head coach in league history. Solich moved into a tie for first place on the MAC’s all-time career head coaching wins list with a 34-21 win at Ball State on Oct. 26. Solich has 110 career wins and needs one win to become the all-time winningest coach in MAC history (110, Herb Deromedi, Central Michigan, 1978-93). Solich and the Bobcats will host Miami on Wednesday, Nov. 6 at 8:00 pm ET on ESPN2 in the 96th meeting in the ‘Battle of the Bricks’.
• Western Michigan running back LeVante Bellamy is one of college football’s most dangerous running backs. Bellamy ranks second in the nation with 17 rushing touchdowns and sixth in the country with 1,055 yards rushing. Bellamy and the Broncos host Ball State on Tuesday, Nov. 5 at 8:00 pm ET on ESPN2.
MAC Notebook
• Central Michigan rolled to a season-high 615 yards of total offense in a 48-10 win over Northern Illinois. With the win, the Chippewas are bowl eligible for the 11th time in the last 14 seasons and are 5-0 at home for the first time since 2009, when they won the Marathon MAC Football Championship. Central Michigan’s Kobe Lewis rushed for 143 yards and one touchdown, while Jonathan Ward rushed for 138 yards and one score. Central Michigan’s defense forced four turnovers and limited NIU to 251 yards of offense, including 22 yards rushing.
• Buffalo won its third consecutive game with a commanding 43-14 win at Eastern Michigan. Bulls quarterback Kyle Vantrease threw for a career-high 208 yards and one touchdown, while rushing for two others. Running back Jaret Patterson rushed for 160 yards and two touchdowns and topped the 2,000 career rushing yards for his career (2,008 career rushing yards).
• Bowling Green spotted Akron an early 6-0 lead before scoring the final 35 points in a 35-6 final. Bowling Green running back Andrew Clair posted 102 all-purpose yards, including 86 yards rushing, and one touchdown, while quarterback Grant Loy threw for 113 yards and one touchdown and rushed for another in the victory. Bowling Green’s defense forced four turnovers and limited Akron to 100 yards of total offense.
MIAMI & OHIO RIVALRY HIGHLIGHT CFB150TH ANNIVERSARY
One of the MAC’s greatest rivalries continues this Wednesday, Nov. 6 at 8:00 pm ET in front of a national television audience on ESPN2 as Miami will travel to Ohio in the ‘Battle of the Bricks’ at Peden Stadium in Athens, Ohio.
This will be the 96th meeting between Miami (4-4, 3-1 MAC) and Ohio (4-4, 3-1 MAC) who sit atop the East Division standings with identical records. The Miami vs. Ohio rivalry is the longest in the MAC in terms of number of meetings as the ‘Battle of the Bricks’ rivalry began back in 1908. Miami leads the series 53-40-2.
On Wednesday, Nov. 6th the MAC will also highlight the national celebration for the 150th Anniversary of College Football as the MAC will be the only FBS Conference playing a regular season game on the official date of the start of college football (Nov. 6, 1869).
The MAC and ESPN are planning special events and guests to celebrate the 150th Anniversary of College Football as ESPN will be hosting a 30-minute pregame show beginning at 7:30 pm ET leading up to kickoff. ESPN broadcast talent and special guests will highlight coverage of the MAC’s special place in college football history with football programs steeped in tradition with legendary former coaches and student-athletes.
