MAC Announces Men's Tennis Player and Doubles Team of the Week


MID-AMERICAN CONFERENCE ANNOUNCES MEN’S TENNIS PLAYER AND DOUBLES TEAM OF THE WEEK
 
MAC Men’s Tennis Singles Player of the Week
Danilo Vukotic, Toledo – Senior, Nis, Serbia (Gymnasium Svetozar Markovic)
Toledo senior Danilo Vukotic swept Michigan State’s John Carlin in two sets (6-3, 6-3) on the No. 1 court in East Lansing, Mich. on Saturday, Jan. 11. Vukotic’s victory in singles gave the Rockets their first of three points against Michigan State. The Rockets fell to the Spartans 4-3.
 
Additional Men’s Tennis Singles Nominees:
Peter Kuszynski, Western Michigan – Sophomore, Markham, Ontario (St. Brother Andre Catholic High School)
Western Michigan sophomore Peter Kuszynski went 2-0 at No. 2 singles, helping the Broncos earn two victories on Sunday. Against Butler, he defeated Filip Tensing in straight sets (6-4, 6-4). The reigning MAC Newcomer of the Year then beat Kasper Parlklo from UIC in comeback fashion after dropping the first set, prevailing 10-4 in the third set tie-break (3-6, 7-6, 10-4). Kuszynski also went 2-0 at No. 2 doubles with his partner Jack Randall. 
 
MAC Men’s Tennis Doubles Team of the Week
Jannik Opitz, Western Michigan – Senior, Hildesheim, Germany (Josephinum Hildesheim)
Kennosuke Nouchi, Western Michigan – Senior, Kashima, Japan (Kashima Gakuen)

 
Western Michigan senior’s Jannik Opitz and Kennosuke Nouchi went 2-0 at No. 1 doubles on Sunday, as the Broncos earned convincing wins against Butler and UIC. They defeated Brennan/Wiklund from the Bulldogs 6-4 and Hedstrom/Parlklo from the Flames 6-2. Jannik and Kennosuke are currently ranked in the ITA Doubles Poll at No. 41.

Filip Zupancic, Toledo – Junior, Ljubljana, Slovenia (Gimnazija Siska)

 
Toledo senior Danilo Vukotic and junior Filip Zupancic posted the Rockets’ sole victory on the doubles court in East Lansing, Mich. on Saturday, Jan. 11. Vukotic/Zupancic defeated John Carlin/Anthony Pero 6-2 on the No. 1 court.
