CLEVELAND, Ohio – Sacramento State officially joins the Mid-American Conference today as a football affiliate member, beginning a five-year term in the league.
The Sacramento State football program has won seven conference titles, including three consecutive Big Sky championships from 2019-22, and is one of just 12 FCS programs to win at least seven games in five of the last six seasons. During that span, the Hornets made four NCAA FCS Playoff appearances and spent 50 weeks ranked in the national top 25.
Sacramento State is the only public university in California's capital city. Founded in 1947, the university has grown into one of the region's leading centers of research, innovation and community engagement, enrolling nearly 31,000 students. Located along the American River, Sacramento State is recognized for its accessible and inclusive learning environment.
The Hornets open their inaugural Mid-American Conference season on Saturday, Aug. 29, when they travel to Eastern Michigan for their first conference game as members of the MAC.
