Buffalo Stampedes Past Ball State, 4-2, into MAC Championship Match

BUFFALO, NY - The University at Buffalo men's tennis team battled to a 4-2 win over Ball State in the Mid-American Conference Tournament semifinals in blustery conditions on Saturday afternoon at the UB Tennis Courts. With the win, the Bulls advance to tomorrow's championship match.

Trailing 1-0 after doubles action, the comeback began as the Bulls took four of six first sets in singles action. Senior Theodoros Mitsakos evened the match with a 6-2, 6-2 win at first singles and Emiliano Jorquera followed with a 6-3, 6-0 win at the fifth position to put UB up 2-1.

Senior Faiz Nasyam won 10 straight games to rally to a 7-5, 6-0 victory at six singles. The visitors answered with a win at second singles to cut the UB lead to one, but Clement Mainguy came up big once again as he battled back to win a three-set thriller 6-4, 2-6, 7-5 to clinch the match for Buffalo.

Up next, Buffalo will face the winner of Western Michigan and Northern Illinois in the championship match on Sunday at 1pm.
